How do you treat your riding boots?

Do you have separate boots for riding in? I'm not talking about boots you keep clean and tidy for competitions, but boots you wear for day to day riding. Do you ride in whatever boots you wear to the yard and do all your jobs in, or are your riding boots kept pristine and only for riding in? What are your reasons for this?
 
I used to have separate boots for competing but only compete about twice a year and thought this is silly having a lovely pair of boots that I never wear, so now I live in them.
 
I used to ride and work in the same boots but I wouldn't dream of it now. I only wear Ariat boots as I have a stress fracture in one of my feet which keeps opening up if I wear anything else! I find Ariat boots have the best soles for grip and feel in the stirrup but that wears off if I walk around in them too much, so I always change out of my riding boots asap after riding. Too expensive otherwise to keep buying new ones. The others, I can completely wear out as I am just using them for yard work.
 
Yes, I have boots I school in, ariat Bromonts . I leave my spurs on them to save time. It doesn't really feel right schooling in chaps and spurs don't fit right on them anyway. I generally wear riding trainers most of time around yard so if hacking or galloping just put chaps on over top of those.
 
Use my bromonts all year round for everything, they are totally wrecked but warm and cosy!!! about 6 years old now.........when I get a new pair...then they shall be allrounders too!!
 
I ride in my good competition boots all the time, and would generally wear them for tacking up / riding / putting away, and change into short boots for yard duties. Good boots should easily stand up to being ridden in all the time, but really aren't comfortable to walk around in and muck out etc.
 
I have separate boots - they do a different job :)

wellies for winter for all yard and field work, shorter dealer type boots in the summer when it's warmer. My daily riding boots are the comfiest things ever for riding in but they aren't comfy to be walking about in and are certainly too nice to get muddy bring horses in from the field. Then I have really smart boots for shows although they are now not as nice to ride in as my daily riding boots so will probably get another pair of them to keep clean for shows as they are just sooo good!
 
I ride in my long boots all the time as I want it to feel normal when at comps. Put them on just before I get on and take them off as soon as I dismount. Normal boots for work around yard. Only exception is sometimes hacking in short boots and full length chaps
 
Seperate boots for everything,
horses are at home so its easy to change Wellies to boots for riding in.
normally go to shows and warm up in home boots & have my competition boots just for competing in.

Shamefully have m2m for dressage & m2m boots for SJ & Eventing :/

I take my long boots off as soon as horse is untacked. I have comp boots that only go to shows, another pair for schooling/lessons and I hack in Bromonts. Live in wellies the rest of the time, it means my long boots last for ever. Just having to replace a pair of Bromonts that I've had since they first came out. The footbed is worn out, the outer looks fine!
 
I only ride in my boots - put them on after tacking up and take them off as soon as I'm off the horse. Only one pair on the market fit me and they're £230 a pair so I'm determined to make them last. They also get cleaned every 2-3 rides :).

I do yard jobs in my trusty Timberlands - they've lasted a year of daily use wading through wee, poo, and boot-killing mud. Looks like I'll be getting another year out of them at this rate. They finish mid-calf and are waterproof right to the top, my only issue with them is that Timberland have stopped making them :(.
 
3 pairs of boots:
comp/clinic
home riding
yard work

and never ever use the 3 for anything else! i wear wellies round the yard and only change in to home boots just before i get on.

there is no decent leather boot that will stand up to mucking out, mud etc and remain in good nick for riding.

None of the above- I wear my 'everyday' riding boots for competing, or competing boots every day depending on POV :p but only wear them for riding, take them off straight after and never go into the field with them on/muck out etc. Wellies for mud and yard boots for normal outdoor stuff! Riding boots are super comfy but also smart but I couldn't afford a second pair of the same quality :o

I have my Mountain Horse High Riders for competitions - although they are rather dusty atm as its been a while since I actually competed. I have Brogini Caldo Boots for the yard and I have a pair of Mountain Horse Rimfrost boots for day to day riding. I completely trashed my first pair of proper riding boots wearing them for yard duties - never again
 
Wellies for the yard, Toggi Calgaries for everyday riding and Mountain Horse Firenzes for competition, although I have started to wear them for schooling as I can't be bothered to take my spurs off them and put them on my Toggis. Must stop it though as I've even started not cleaning them once I'm done and I've always been really good about cleaning them after every competition. I'm determined they're going to last as they weren't cheap! Both those and my Toggis are really comfortable - the first riding boots I've had that I could wear all day.
 
Wellies for the yard (it is very muddy, dairy farm), mountain horse boots for everyday riding (or if hot my short boots) and I have a pair for 'best' as I don't think my everyday boots are smart enough.
 
I wear cheap n cheerful wellies for yard jobs... mucking out etc, jod boots & chaps for hacking & I now have some bespoke Equitector's which I wear for competions. Also have my 'old' long rubber boots which I will probably dig out for winter when I need 2 prs of sox!
 
I have boots for competing, lessons and schooling. I wear my yard boots for hacking. I'll invest in short boots and gaiters again for jumping (when I have a jump saddle again) next spring.
 
I have boots for riding in and boots for yard work but I use the same riding boots for everyday and competition. They are cleaned after almost every ride

Same with me - your poll doesnt allow for this. Very expensive boots are so lovely to ride in - one cant leave them in the cupboard. I hack in them too.
 
Ariat Bromonts for competing, Mountain Horse High Riders for every day riding and wellies for yard work. I'm afraid the MH boots take a fair amount of abuse but I've had them for 2 years and they still Clean up beautifully on the rare occasions I actually clean them. Great boots, love them.
 
I currently only have wellingtons, but do tend to use the same pair of boots for everything. My last pair were Ariats and they really held up well for almost three years :)
 
My riding boots are purely for riding in, I clean them when I think about it. Rest of the time I swap between Dublin river boots, woof wear long boots or Dublin short with chaps. Depends on weather. Occasionally i pop my hunter wellies on.
 
I ride and do all my jobs in my dublin river boots. Husband bought me a lovely pair of riding boots for competitions but so far haven't entered anything and therefore I have never used them other than round the house to try and break them in. I have had them for six months now.
 
I wear wellies for all yard work (Ariat for winter, flimsy hunters with "air vents"/holes for summer when I'd rather be in flip flops ), and mountain horse boots to ride in which are smart and comfy but it doesn't break my heart when I have to trudge through muddy bits to do gates etc. I do have a pair of "best" riding boots for competition wear but as my horse is constantly unsound they have lived in my wardrobe and have been posh slippers for the past year!!
 
I have Reynaud's phenomenon, so I wear thermal boots during winter. I wouldn't dare take them off to put on a cold pair to ride. I tend to live in Muckboots when the weather turns as you can get away with everything in them.
 
Can't do the poll as I have one pair of long leather riding boots that are only used for riding (of any type hacking, schooling or competition) Walking in them is uncomfortable so swop to wellies once I'm off the horse. This is not necessarily a bad thing - means they last for years as I'm not tempted to do mucky yard jobs that would ruin them.
