How do you stop your water buckets freezing in the stable overnight? Any ideas or solutions appreciated!!!!

put a (clean) tennis ball or apple in it

We have heated water buckets over here - are they available in the UK yet? If not then I can post a link but you would need to use these buckets with an adapter.

put them in the back corner of the stable in the horses bed (we leave some deep litter around the bucket). Keeps the temperate around the water a bit warmer.

Hmm, tried that last year and he kept taking the ball out of the bucket to play with..

The flexible buckets are less likely to freeze.

Use trugs (larger bodies of water freeze over more slowly), add a kettle of boiling water last thing at night and add a few rubber duckies!

Thanks for the ideas!!! Have made do with plastic ball tonight but am off to get some rubber ducks tomorrow!!!

If I put rubber ducks into Roxys water bucket, she`d do a lot of snorting and go thirsty.

sorry forgot to add, I use one of those big soft rubber trugs buckets and it has been ice free so far. We are in an open barn stable though. I think its warmer than being in an outside stable.
