I have only ever had my horse on Full / Part Livery.
Could someone please explain to me how it would work with grass livery, only wanting to be stabled overnight through winter? Do you still have to pay for having the stable throughout the year?
Any info about how it works in general, i.e if facilities do you have to pay separately for use of menage etc, would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Its the same as part/full - what you get for it will vary depending on the yard!
Generally speaking grass livery doesn't include a stable, it is a field which may or may not have a shelter in it. Some yards will give you storage still & allow use of the facilities, others may not. If you want a stable overnight you are probably looking for DIY livery where they allow 24 hr turnout in summer & daily in winter. Certainly in my area that is hard to find at a reasonable price with good facilities/hacking too (& I live in horsey country)
Depending on the size of the field you may have to poo pick or you may find they harrow/rotate/rest fields so don't have any jobs to do.

Thanks for your reply.
Basically my work commitments don't allow me to have him on DIY, so would be also looking for someone to feed / check twice a day and any other jobs such as poo picking... Am I looking for something that doesn't exist?!
Maybe for what I need I do need to pay full livery prices and just ask for him to live out on a livery yard and then the stable is there for when I need it in the winter....!

Grass livery means you dont get a stable

The full, part, DIY 'thing' is something else so full grass livery would mean you would not need to go down daily where DIY grass livery means you would

Its just the way the horse is kept thats different rather than the level of care it receives

It does exist, not quite as common but certainly out there.

Usually grass livery is just s horse at grass. You do all the looking after.
Some places offer extra to check horse etc.
Some have facilities to use others none.

If you want a stable most you pay all year round.
Although I have heard a few don't.

Basically every yard is different do you need to check what is and isn't included.

So you're looking for assisted DIY essentially.

Yes maybe, I wasn't sure how it works when away from full livery which is why I thought I'd ask to try and get an idea / understand.

Guess what you say is true if I need assistance though! Do DIY yards normally have full time employed grooms that do the jobs for assisted and are on site all day or are they normally freelance grooms who come and go?

Yards vary so much that you will just have to ask around.

Yep, as ihatework said. Best thing to do, go round different yards and see what they can do for you. We have one on grass livery and one on part livery. The one on grass gets checked and fed once a day and that's it, no stable. Works fine for him, would not work for the other one. Good luck

I have mine on assisted grass livery. YO does mornings and I do the evenings. When I'm away with work I go onto part grass livery where everything bar grooming and riding is done :)

Check with the owner as to what is covered. Some yards grass-only is just that - you may get a tack room but no stable - thats a payable extra.

By the sounds of it you need assisted diy or part livery xxxx

My pony lives out, but it is not techincally grass livery as I do have a stable included and pay the same as the DIY people who have horses that come in at night and can use all the same facilities as them as well such a school, tack room, etc. Grass livery does not usually include a stable and is normally cheaper than DIY as you are not paying for the use of a stable.

On the yard I am on we are DIY so we look after our own horses though YO will put out hay in the winter if they need it and normally goes down to field most days. We don't have any grooms on our yard but there is a livery who will provide holiday/emergency cover but she is not always available and it depends on how busy she is.
