Hello all,

Can you let me know how you think my mare looks? A few people on my yard have commented that she is REALLY fat. I certainly dont think she is the skinniest horse in the world but I wouldnt say she is REALLY fat..... but I might not be see it the same as everyone else can.

She is an 8 yr old, 15hh, clydesdale x cob.

Please dont be too mean ;)

yes, her bum is rather peachy. I have been gradually upping her workload (I've only had her 14 weeks, so still get to know each other). We are doing more hill work on hacks and doing lots of active walking and trotting. I lunge her once a week but will be going up to 2/3 times a week before being hacked. She is out 24/7 on grass and with the dry, sunny weather then rain for a few days the grass has has been so rich!

I think she looks pretty good actually - I wouldn't be worrying if you are building up her workload anyway. Looking at her bum she looks about right. Can you feel her ribs? She looks a bit bloated from the side which is probably down to the grass. Perhaps these people are confusing bloated and in need of muscle tone with fat.

She looks lovely. She has the build for a bit of meat on her anyway. So long as you can feel her ribs I wouldn't worry.
Obviously if you are worried about her looks you can bring her to me and I will hide her away for you :-) she's gorgeous!

I personally wouldn't like to see her carrying any more weight than that, but I certainly wouldn't describe her as really fat. I would ignore the comments and keep upping the workload and she will tone up and loose a bit more like that. It certainly doesn't look like you need to take drastic action.

She looks perfect to me (coming from someone who suffers from owning 'fat pony slim' - just keep her at this perfect size! Well done. Ps she is beautiful

She is what she is, and typical of the breeds she's crossed with.

You wouldn't want her any fatter. But I think she looks great.

She's a bit chubby, but I think her shape is making her look fatter than she is. She has quite a low belly, has she ever had a foal? Lunging in a pessoa or similar would help with her tummy muscles and give her a sleeker shape :)

She's gorgeous btw

Grand stamp of a family fun cob. Cheap and easy to keep, hand me the clippers and we will have her in the local cob class.

Yes she has had 2 foals that I know of. I did wonder why her tummy was quite low - that would prob explain it?

I don't have a pessoa but will look into getting one. We have a physio on our yard so I will ask her advice on excercises to tighten her tummy muscles :D

She's fab, just my type. I have a clyde x cob who is already 15.2hh on his withers and 16hh on his bum. He's going to be a big chap, and he's not even 3 yet.

I hope you have lots of fun together. x

I also think she looks fine, although I wouldn't want her any bigger.

But I think she'd look even better in my field, feel free to put a stamp on that lovely bottom & send her my way!
