So I am aware that Newcoemrs is 1.10m and Foxhunter is 1.20 (for seniors)
And that you need 4 double clears to qualify for any second rounds.
The second rounds starts at 1.20 or 1.30 depending on class and increase by 10cm each round yes? And there are three rounds.
What confuses me is do the fences really get this big? Because you see 5/6 yo horses at the finals at HOYS and surely this is a hell of a lot to ask a horse of this age? Regardless of its breeding, talent or who is riding it?
These horses will be jumping 1.45/1.55m tracks!
Am I correct?
Has anyone any experience of taking a young horse to these second rounds and how did they cope?
Or at least know of anyone who has jumped their youngster this big?
I am hoping to get a show jumping prospect aged 4/5 yo with the hopes to jump international and 1.50 tracks in the future, I was shocked to think it would be asked to jump these second rounds at such a young age, as I have full intentions to ask this of the horse if it is capable.
Thanks all!
