How does this stable look?

Me neither :) you should come over here and teach the useless muppets how a comfortable stable should look, they all stand knee deep in old pee over here and have rotten hooves.
I think you are doing a great job OP and i agree with Rowreach about getting advice on here, many of us hesitate over the keyboard however old we are in real life so well done you for your tenacity
I will tell you CAF that i bought my horse of a life time from a family who's 12 year old daughter chose him and backed him 2 years later , not only is he heaven to ride but he has the most perfect manners as well . I feel certain that with your dedication you and your pony are going to be a great team. xxx
 
There should be a like button for posts like this - as with many other posters I think its great you come and ask for advice and take it well. Huge well done on the weight loss too - mine is a permanent fatty and therefore on a permanent diet too and it's hard work I know :) I'd also ask about giving a bucket of straw chaff so she has something to munch on when she's finished her allotted hay ration. (That said, mine is the world's unfussiest eater and she steadfastly refused straw chaff!)
 
I really do try to do the best for her even though sometimes it doesn't go to plan. I love her very, very much and it's crazy to say but I'm glad she's the way she is because I fell working with her so much on the ground really helps me connect with her and understand her better. Thank you for all your advice as it can be hard to know what to sometimes and it's good to know that there's such a lot of kind and knowledgeable people I can ask for help.

You honestly do sound like you really love her and from what I can see ask loads of questions (which is always great) as well as working off common sense...which is a damn sight more than a lot of adults I know do (lol?) So good luck and enjoy your gorgeous pony :)

She's doing really well and was trotting over the tiniest crosspole this morning even if she did have a little bucking spree when she was transitioning to canter. She's becoming more bombproof all the time and listens well now as long as you listen too.

I just sat down for a cup of tea and nearly fell off my chair :D Good for you CAF, I know at times it has been difficult but you have really learned a lot in a short time, I am so impressed with your attitude!

she had two water buckets they're just round the corner. She's got about another 40kg to lose as she's lost about 30kg so free feeding isn't an option it has to be in a greedy feeder. I've put another bale in of chopped straw. The yo told me not to use too much but we pay the same per month for 8 bales or 2 so that might be why. The chain is temporary until I can get a proper guard and is only on when I'm with her. She has plenty of room to lie down:

Well those 2 photo's show your rather lovely cob thinks the stable is just fine. Is that a swede hanging up? that brings back great memories for me if it is :)
If you google stable guards you will have loads to choose from plus some other idea's which may work better for you

Thank you for saying she's lovely, I certainly think so. Yes that is a swede. It keeeps her entertained for a week having one hung up :lol: thIs was her gorgeousness after her feathers were washed:

That's the thing. Too deep is as bad as nothing down. I've got 2" thick matts all over the stable so I don't put a massive bed down it's just there to soak up any stray pee and poo moisture and to make it a bit homely. An ex livery had a bed so deep it was about a foot high to step into it and the base was solid so the horse would quite literally be standing with her back legs a foot taller than her front if she was at the door, then she complained about her horse having back problems.
 
yes i would take out the wet to keep the bed smelling ok....also as equi says the bed shouldnt be lots higher than the floor if you are having only part of the stable covered. i have 3/4 bedding and i completely muck out daily and sweep the mats so we all do things slightly differently. i am sure your girl with thrive with your desire to do things properly so pat yourself on the back and relax and enjoy her....
 
I have nothing to add about the stable but just wanted to say that your horse is beautiful . . . and I'm not really a cob person! She's got a lovely face and looks as though she knows she's fallen on her feet!
 
Thank you all, I think she's rather wonderful too :) I feel like she chose me when I went to see her, like she was meant to be mine. I love her more than anything and really do think she's the best girl in the world.
