How does this wanted Ad sound ?

Lady Rider over 20 years horse experience looking for new horse to replace retired horse after 13 years of owning him.

The right horse will be between 15.2 and 16.2 6 to 8 years old.
Gelding preferred but not averse to a good mare.

Must have experience showjumping and Cross Country and be well schooled on the flat.

No vices or unsoundness Rider wishes to compete lightly unaffiliated DR/XC/SJ and be able to work in an arena or hack out alone. Must be good with the farrier and vet.
Horse needs to be located in Gloucestershire area as not willing to travel 100's of miles to view horses and would like to take up local references on the horses suitability.
A permanent home awaits the right horse and I see this as an opportunity for someone with a much loved horse to find it a permanent home where it wil be well looked after stabled and attended daily..

I am not sure what price tag I should put on it ?

There is a horse advertised that woul fit the bill but I think its team chased and that puts me off.

So what pricetag should I put 17s and 6pence halfpenny ?

My mare cost £6500 and for what she is I think it is very fair. I am going to advertise her at OIRO£7k, but she is 10 this year, so I am expecting to get back what I payed for her.

That makes sense I had a budget of 4500 to 7500 in mind dependant on age and experience of horsey and if all boxes were ticked. I am going for 6 to 8 as I dont want to end up with another horse to retire too soon. This will probably be my last horse as by the time it needs a quieter life I will too I figure a 7 year old will give me 12 years plus. I bought Gulliver at 4 (no 3 in sig) and he's had to retire early as he is only 17.

Fair enough

You are limiting yourself with the age, but I am sure if you look long and hard enough you will find your ideal horse

Yes it all makes sense but if I aim for perfection and one box isnt ticked then I have a nearly perfect horse but if I aim for a horse with four legs I will probably come back with a cabbage.

History of last two purchases.

Went out for a 10 to 12 year old schoolmaster boughtt a green 6 year old.

Went out for an 8 year old came back with a 4 year old

Perhaps you could focus on what you want it to do rather than what you want it to be. Age, sex, height and geography brackets could perhaps be stretched a bit for the right horse provided it does the job.

There is no such thing as perfect, the important part is being sure about what areas you can compromise and what parts you can't.

From what you say the main priorities sound like:
fit and sound
kind temprament
good basic education and manners
honest and straightforward jumper
experienced on local competition circuit (with some sort of proof of success?)
good references available

Just a suggestion.

Sounds good to me I hate buying horses !! I was done over like a kipper with one and it still hurts to this day I nearly gave up riding.

A friend of mine has a fantastic very safe eventer/hunter for sale, 7/8yo really good honest horse which would go on to at least intermediate level (as came from top event yard) they want around 7.5 for him, and are based near kidderminster. PM me if you want number. Its a very genuine sale.
