Summer she is out 24/7, at the moment she brought in for 3-4 hours for some hay in the day and then popped back out, there is still plenty of grass and all the horses on the yard are still out, when the weather gets bad she may come in at night.
 
Mine are both out 24/7 and are happiest that way. My gelding will be stabled and does enjoy it but only if there are plenty of other horses in too otherwise he will attemp to climb out! So in that respect it is easier for him to live out.

They will both be in muzzles/in a bare patch for the summer months as they are lami prone.
 
Mine are out 24/7 but have access to stables and hard standing if they want it.
I have my own land and this is how I prefer to keep them. They are a lot happier being out all the time. They only tend to come to the stables when the flies are bad in the summer or if very wet and windy.
 
Out 24/7 till nov, in at night till feb. Turnout everyday without fail 7:30 to whenever I get up after work. My mare happy as larry :)
 
Summer out 24/7 and normally in winter they would be out during day and in at night as my paddocks get very wet and muddy. However this year my YO offered me the use of a 14 acre field for the winter! It has plenty of grass, plenty of natural shelter so they are staying out 24/7. It will save me a fortune on hay and bedding :-)
 
Out 24/7 because we have the land, I don't have time to keep them in, and it is most natural, healthy way to keep horses. Oh and one of my lads won't stay in anyway.
 
My welshie lives out 24/7 over summer and usually spring then through Kate Autumn and winter comes in overnight largely to save the field but is out from about 6:30am - 17:00 my youngster (princess pathetic) is always in at night comes in about 15:00 is not a fan of turnout stoopid horse!
 
out 24/7, none of them like being in and I'm lucky that i rent enough land to have a field i can let them trash over winter and still have plenty of grazing for the rest of the year. I have a stable but rarely use it, sometimes if it's been wet for a long time i'll give them a night in on a rota basis just to let their legs dry out. been doing it this way for nearly 7 years now and never had mud fever on any of them.
 
Ours are at home but they lived the same way when we were at livery. Out 24/7 in Summer, out during the day, whatever the weather over the winter, which started in September this year because as the summer had been so wet the land would be trashed if they were out 24/7.
 
Well, not out all day but out all night. From 3 pm till 7 am. Yard rules. She could be out during the day but then it would only really be from 7 am till 1 pm which is to short for her as she get to stiff being in the stable to long. If I had my way she would be out from 7 am till 7pm every day but that is not an option :(
Our Belgian draft is out 24/7 with natural shelter. He really is my OH horse and finds that is the way it should be. And to be fair to him whenever we do put the chap ( horse not OH ;) ) in a stable put what ever reason he is only happy as long as his food lasts :D
 
Mine has limited turnout when its really wet, out all day when it dries up and out 24/7 in the summer. We are on around 5 hours a day now. Not by choice, the yard im on has 100+ horses which all need grazing so we have to share :P
 
My two big horses, as appossed to the miniatures are out 24/7, used to keep them in at night and out in the day but when I started giving them the choice when an elderly mare was becoming stiff being kept in they all chose to stay out so now thats where they are. They do like to come in in the middle of the day in the summer. Two of the miniatures are out out 24/7 but the new one that arrived last week is in over night only because she is an escape artist and I am afraid I will lose her. She will be out 24/7 once she has settled. I now have three wasted stables! :)
 
Out 24/7.

I just always prefered this.

We have enough fields that there is no problem with ruining over winter. They are in large herds and happy out. I've always found oldies better when out moving with a full herd with youngsters, stiffen when stabled. Get to catch them having moments at stupid o'clock in the morning. etc.

Convenience doesn't come into it, it's what I think is best for them.
 
In summer out 24/7, unless flies really bad then in for the day

In winter, out in the day (usually 6am-5.30pm weekdays, 8am-5pm weekends) with hay in field if needed, and at the moment in at night as field is so wet, and trying to save it as best as possible. Would/will leave out overnight with hay if dry enough, but not looking likely this year!! :rolleyes:
 
Out 24/7 come rain or shine, naked.

He is a Haflinger and doesnt like being stabled at all. Some days he doesnt even want to come in for feed so hes more than happy out in his field/woodland.

I bought him for this reason. I personally dont like seeing horses stabled when they dont need to be. I dont mind mucking out at all, in fact I quite like it, but seeing the state of my friends mare's stable in the morning I cant bare the thought of him standing around in his own wee and poo for hours at a time. Plus, and this is a big factor, he is quite fat and eats for England so would get very fat being on hay over night.

I also like the fact I only have to go up once a day and this can be any time I like. I am not ruled by turn in/out times. If I only have an hour, I can spend all of that on my pony and not mucking out and rug changing.

Money is also a massive factor for me. Grass livery is £65 a month, but those who are in at night (with hay and straw) work out at about £175.

So many factors for me :O)
 
Its interesting to see how many are out 24/7. Mine go out at seven and come in at lucnchtime in the winter and in at six in the eve in the summer. I really worry if they get rained on lol. One is clipped right out.....obviously rugged up and the other one is 22 and she prefers to be in but has to keep the younger one company.
 
Summer out 24/7 ( with muzzle or restricted grazing at times and the odd day in off the spring grass when we rotate to a fresh paddock) and winter in at night and out approx 7am to 6pm. Would love to leave her out 24/7 in winter with a field shelter so she could please herself but yard rules dictate and I must admit on those wild, wet and windy nights I am secretly pleased to know she is tucked up safe and sound in her stable:)
 
Winter in at night, he is on a low sugar diet and the liveries who live out feed unsoaked hay in the field which I don't want him to have. I could put him in a pen I suppose, but he spends all summer in a pen and I like him to have time as part of the herd. Summer out 24/7 in his pen.
 
Out 24/7 365. I rent a field and there are no stables. They're both under 3yo and my mare has a locking stifle so being in does her no favours. They're both hairy and happy and I don't need any facilities so it suits us.
 
3 of mine live out 24/7 because I see no point in bringing them in. They have access to open stables, are rugged appropriately, get hay and fed twice daily. My new horse is however coming in at night, I want to get him out 24/7 eventually but he's a horse who has been stabled most of his life (with only about 20 min turnout occassionally) and as a result isnt exactly great in the field as he just gallops (literally gallops (and jumps fences...) until you take him in)! So I had to start turning him out in a 6ft high round pen and slowly increasing the size of it and the time he spent in it. So now he's up to a paddock about the size of say 4 stables and is happily out all day. Im not quite brave enough to leave him out at night until I can fully trust that he'll remain in the paddock...!
 
Was living out 24/7 in summer bar the odd night, and is out for a good few hours in the day and in at night now in winter. (with great grazing - I am having to strip graze his winter paddock)

I am however moving in a couple of weeks which is going to be really sad as I love my yard to bits, and will be again 24/7 in summer and few hours in day in winter then in at night, so really no different.

I have been on a couple of yards that had little or no turnout in winter and that sent my boy back then loopy he needs at least a few hours being out.
 
Big huge wooly half shire/cob good doer with massive feathers, a huge long thick mane and generally a really hot boy - out 24/7, rainsheet at night when below 5 degrees.

If I'd have done that to my Tb, she'd have been dropping 2 stone a day!:D
 
Out 24/7 365 days of the year... the only time she gets stabled is if she needs to dry off after having a bath. She does have a choice of 2 field shelters and hedge though.

There's no need for her to be stabled so I don't see the point of giving myself extra work .. she's not very good in the stable either, no one but myself goes in the stable with her, even dad calls her to the door to catch her if she's been in for some reason.

Oh and at the moment she's Unrugged, no clip, very hairy 3/4 TB x shire.
 
Out 24/7. My girls hate being in, and one will try and escape from the stable if she doesn't want to be there. OH old girl looks so much better since living out, and the rest just seem so much more relaxed for being out.
