How embarassing - 13h vs 16h3!

Just had a jumping lesson on my lad who I am retraining from steeplechaser to eventer. After getting to grips (ish) with our flat work I have now started to concentrate on jumping and particularly a) reducing the speed

and b) getting a nice shape over the fence. Anyway, had my lesson and was feeling really good about it all as he jumped a line of 2 fences (2 strides) with a 3 ft oxer as the second one which he made a beautiful shape over (if terrifyingly fast). Just as I was beginning to think I may be starting to get half decent the 12 year old who has a pony ar our stable wandered past and told me she had just won a 2ft9 class on her 13.2 pony. Seeing as my beast is 16h3 I now feel a bit hopeless to say the least

I knew Sam when he was called Torpica and in training. My parents had horses at the same yard and I used to live with the trainer's son (not in the biblical sense!!). We have known their family for years.

How random!! Really glad to hear that you are enjoying him and he's having fun being out of the race yard.

[/ QUOTE ] How true that is. We've got a 12 year old kiddie riding our 11.2hh pony over 3'9" jumps - it terrifies us (and her mum) watching but the pony clears them with ease. We've been trying to sell him for months now, but unfortunately we've not found a child competent enough to jump the classes he wants to jump. Unfortunately our rider is now too big and too old to compete on him, so unless we find a suitable home soon, it looks like he will become our yard mascot. I think we will have to change his career now though. As for the rider, she's got her on 13.2hh pony and regularly beats seniors and their horses in the classes too. What it is to be young and not have the nerves we all get when we get older.
 
How cool! Was that up in Cheshire or in his previous yard? And was he as loved on the yard with you as he is now? He is such a character that everyone on my yard has fallen in love with him. I have to be careful he doesnt get too porky as so many people like spoiling him

If it was Cheshire how is the trainers son leg doing? My friends live in the house by the yard and they told me that he damaged his leg I think.
 
This is very true. I have turned into a complete chicken now I am in my thirties. I think because everything hurts so much more (and takes so much longer to mend) when you hit the deck. Plus it is alot futher to fall

Well last weekend I took my baby on his first outing, we missed the clear round so did the 1'9" class instead!!!!! We did produce a double clear (he is 16.3hh so I hoped he could get over them!!). Very pleased wiv him, never been in an indoor school before and didn't squish any ponies so very good!!!! Then my cousin comes in later of her 12.3hh and wins the 3'3" open class!
