how far apart?

Hi all
How far apart-ish should trotting and canter poles be ?

How big is your horse/pony?

Trotting poles i normally do about 2 strides for and canter poles 4 strides but you have to find the right length for you horse, have someone on the ground the first time who can alter them for you

that makes sence 14.2 x

trotting poles - 4' - when walking it, take one stride and add your foot to the distance

always put odd numbers of poles out - for some reason, even numbers of trotting poles seem to encourage horses to try and jump the whole lot

canter poles - approx 9' - 3 human strides apart

I would agree with spacefaer for your pony...my horse is 15.3 and really big moving so he needs long distances hehe

thanks! will be experimenting with them tomorrow, havnt jumped on him yet so thought id do bit of pole work 1st x
