How far are your horses from your home?

Mine is 5 miles away, 10 - 15 mins drive. Sooo jealous of people saying they can see their horses from their bedroom window! I need to win the lottery!

The downside of having the horses at home (without a lottery win) is the lack of facilities. We have reasonable hacking and in fact some very short, quiet hacks on the doorstep, great for bringing horses back into work or just 'popping out' but all the facilities you might look for on a livery yard are very basic if they exist at all. Not that I would swap!

I live in a farm cottage and rent a field and barn at the end of my garden, 30 seconds walk. If they're out at night, the mares are the first thing I see when I wake up. That is priceless, but there's a downside to having them at home with no lights, no school, no friends to share chores. My daughters are wonderful and do almost all the hard work (along with their well-trained boyfriends!), but when they were young they just wanted to be on a yard with other kids. Now they realise how lucky they have been, and we'd never have had ponies at all if we couldn't keep them here.

My boy is a 20-30min drive away depending on the traffic!! I live in a city so all the yards are atleast 15mins drive away :( his old yard was 15mins drive but I had to go twice a day so it worked out expensive in petrol. His current yard i'm turning out and his field buddy's owner brings in so its not too bad when I go once a day! I honestly don't think i'd like to keep my horses at home, I'd get lonely! a yard 5mins away would be lovely though!

Lexi is kept about 11 miles from my home, and 3 miles from where I work.... journey to yard at 5.45am takes just over 10mins, and journey from yard to work takes just over 5mins in the mornings...... the evenings, from work to yard takes about 20mins, and from yard to home takes about 45mins!!

I'd give up the sandschool, group discount, amiable chatter and on-site instructor in a heart beat if it meant making porridge in the morning with the 'osses out back. I'm sure it'd get a bit lonely after a few months though.

Mine is a 15 minute drive but considering I live in the centre of a big city that's really not bad at all. My OH is, however, prepared for the fact that when we finally do buy our first place it will have to be a ramshackle large building with old stables and plenty of land so there's room for my horse and maybe some friends' horses as well

april to november she is next to my house and i can see her from my bedroom window.

november to april she is 10 mins away on working livery..:( its all i can afford and she needs a stable, but on the plus side i get to use a indoor school

1 mile exactly - i cycle there every morning with the dogs at 6.30am to feed them all - field sharer goes back up at 9am to check them over and change rugs if necessary
in the afternoon i stop on way back from work to ride - simply becuase its only a field with no secure storage so i have to take my saddle up each time :)
after riding in summer i often turn her out for a bit then walk back down later with dogs to check/rug up etc :)

My horses are 5 minutes away from me in the car. I used to have them at a yard 2 minute walk away but even though it had a lovely indoor the school the people were horrible! It just wasn't a nice place to be and I ended up dreading going to the yard. My new yard doesn't have amazing facilities but the people are fab and my horses are very happy.

Mine are in my garden :) LOL We came to view the house with tapemeasure in hand to see if we could put the stables in the garden, we have and it's brilliant!! I can see them from the bedroom window & see if theyre doing anything they shouldnt!! Like getting out - the chestnut's a sod for doing that!!

My house is the one on the right with the stables in the garden.

Just moved to a new yard which is 15/20 mins away. Old one only 5 mins away! This has brilliant off road riding though and a school and assisted livery means I dont have to get up there before work. Definatley worth the extra miles!

Just outside the back door! :D

When we had them on livery we were about 15mins walk away. Our first yard was about 25mins walk (10min drive) which is about the furthest I would want them TBH.

6 miles, but the roads are easy so it only takes 10 mins. Just moved from a livery yard that was only two miles away and am now leasing my own land and stables. So worth the extra distance in exchange for not being under someone else's rules.

About 4 hours away im in bristol they're in Cambridge, i get back at weekends as at uni and mum looks after them during the week. A 3.5 train ride home :)

About 3 mins walk, I used to have them in the garden behind the house but I never got anything done. (have a cup of tea and check horses, quick fag and check horses AGAIN etc) so I moved them to a bigger field out of view.
