How far away do you keep your horses

God knows in miles! It's 15/20 mins away at the moment but on the way to work & I go twice a day in the winter :)
When I move into my flat it will be 5 mins away, can't wait!!!

12 minutes drive. 15 is my maximum. Visit twice a day.

A few years of 20 minutes each way twice a day was definitely too much.

Gained an extra 8 minutes each way when I went down from 20 to 12 gained me 32 minutes a day and 3.5 hours a week. That made a big difference to my life!

I have just moved them to a friend's yard which is 26 miles away and takes about an hour to get to. I go down 3 times a week - they are now out 24/7 and are much happier. This is a temporary thing for over winter.

At home now; distance depends on which field they are in. Kept them on DIY livery for years and they were 26 miles away (but on the way to work for my sister).

I previously had a 20 mins walk to work; now have an hour commute. Totally worth it

Mine is in livery about 8 or 9 miles away, and I go up once a day. Takes me about half an hour to drive there from home, an hour and a half to get there after work, mixture of tube and car. Would love to live somewhere more rural where I didn't spend 3 hours of my day travelling between work, home and yard, or just working closer to the yard would help! Think what I could do with that time!

Mine is 11 miles away (I think) and a half hour drive if there is no traffic. Can take up to an hour at the wrong time. Luckily only a 10 min drive from work so I go most evenings; my work is unpredictable sometimes and I often work late so I couldn't be on DIY, plus I moved to the yard when I worked much further away. He is on five-day part livery and assisted at the weekends so YO will turn out or bring in and I will muck out. If I'm not going in the evening I might pop up at lunchtime to see him in the field and muck out.

How far do you all travel/keep your horses on livery from home? And how often do you visit the yard.

Trying to decide how far is too far to livery a horse!

10 feet from my front door is his stable with my mares next to his and the pony at the other end of the bungalow

I visit my yard 20 + times a day every time I walk out the front door.
the pony / donkey field is also out my back window

The furthest I traveled to my horses daily is 40 -45 mins travel as I lived in Barns London and horse was Wexham near the hospital. I traveled once a day then as my friend did the morning shift and I did hers in the pm shift

4 minutes drive, 20 minutes walk. I go a minimum of 3x daily. I have 2 liveries who can step in if needed. I lives closer than me! When I just had Arlo, & I lived in Barnsley, he was liveried approx 45 minutes drive away, on full livery. I worked Mon, Tues, Weds, so didn't see him on those days. It nearly killed me. I have kept them at home ( a previous home) & that was wonderful. 5 steps from the back door, but unfortunately the house was rubbish, so we had to move. I'm looking for another property so I can keep them at home again, I hate it that they're not at home with me.

current yard is 19 miles and about a 15-20 min drive away. but it owned by a friend of a friend so not too bad. Pony is shared so a girl local to the yard goes up often as well.

Have horses at two yards just to make things difficult. One is DIY and about 10 minutes from home on the way to work and get quite a lot of help from friends sharing duties. The other is part livery so effectively I go there to ride rather than do stable duties. He is about 30 minutes away. Spend far too long driving but I couldn't afford to keep them both at the "competition" yard and retired horse loves his retirement yard.

Depending on route taken, some routes are longer but quicker, mine is 18-21 miles away from home and 27-32 miles away from work. Takes half an hour or an hour. I'm on 5 days full livery with assist at weekends but travel there 3xweekly after work and twice daily at weekends. The travel - and the cost of travel - is getting me down although I love my yard been there over 3 years great support good yard ages great facilities x

59 miles from home, about 1 hour 15 minutes travelling time. It can take 2 hours 15 minutes if I hit going through Aberdeen at the wrong time. It's it crazy to go that far? Yes. Is it worth it? Yes, I'm my own boss as it's my own land and ticks all the boxes you would want for horses. I go up 2/3 times a week for a few hours and go up every day when my mare is in season just to make sure my stallion boys haven't tried the to get though the 7000w electric fences.
