How far did you travel to view your horse?

I've gone from the USA to Spain before :o decided on the 2 we wanted had to come back home to sort the paper work out etc, then fly back to bring them home. Well worth it though!

Hi, i think it doesnt really matter how far, if you think the horse is right for you, i went to Ireland to fine my dream horse. best thing i ever did :) xx

Should have been 4 hour trip, turned into 7 hours stuck on M25 and bed and breakfast because we were so delayed we could not see the horse in the daylight so arranged to try it the next morning.

Nearest to a divorce I have been ! Thankfully the horse turned into a horse of a lifetime.

I travelled down overnight to pick him up in the lorry to fetch him home, getting to the yard at 7am and back in the Midlands by lunch.

Taking a pee on the embankment of a motorway is not to be recommended and we still laugh about the day now, but at the time it was nightmare and had the horse not been as described I would have murdered somebody.

I went 2 hours to view one horse, however it was lame when we got there but the owners hadnt notice

One i ended up buying was only 30 mins away though :)

The last horse about 10 miles I was lucky as this time I havent found one but travelled 100+ and it was all a waste of time despite my interrogations prior to leaving home!!

Everyone advised me to stick locally and bide my time. But the thought of miles+ just puts me off at the moment!

I set a maximum travel time of an hour when I was looking, which still felt like a looong journey home when it was a wasted trip, but eventually ended up buying the one on my yard I'd wanted all along!

I travelled 450 miles down (about 9 hours) a night in a hotel, a full day with the foal/dam and visiting its sire and then a 450 mile trip back home (about another 9 hours!). Its the best decision I ever made as she matched what I wanted perfectly and I had seen numerous videos/pictures so really there wasnt a chance of me saying no, I did like to pretend I was still considering it but as soon as I saw her I knew she was the right foalie for me!

I'd consider anything in England probably. I maybe wouldn't go to Cornwall (don't like the drive much) but basically if it was under five hours (I'm Cambridge so most things are) I'd consider it. Would most likely pay a transporter to bring the horse back though. I tend to buy youngsters so no need to go back for a second visit. What's the point if you can't ride it anyway?

But in answer to your question Nits came from about 40 minutes down the road and BH was on my yard when I moved in. Somehow he ended up in my stable. Oops. He isn't my type and I'd never have bought him if I'd gone to see him!

I went 5 mins down the road for roo. She was use first i viewed.

And then when looking for my second i went about an hour to view one that wasn't suitable. Jimmy was the second i saw and was 20 mins away

I'd said max 2 hours, but I would have gone further if the right one had appeared ;)

I didn't look at that many, though (lots of advert hunting, but none really 'grabbed' me) and all were within about an hour.

In the end, I found him 20 minutes away! It's funny how many posters had a similar experience! :)

I travel up to 2 hours away, but Im considering going over to Ireland in a few weeks. Im getting totally fed up of horse hunting over here.

Good luck am interested to know how you get on. Hope you find one, I sometimes like the look of ones that have been ridden round housing estates in Ireland, probably as I know they are likely to be traffic proof............sorry mad I know! But if possible and being nosey would like to know. I have used horse transporter before to save me the trouble of driving back to collect and well worth the money to do this(cost diesel etc).

i would travel as far as I needed to to find my horse :)

K was over 200 miles away and E was just 30 mins down the road :) I want to go down to wales to get my welsh D but will certainly be visiting the studs up here first if I ever actually get one :) Will be a lot of traveling done as most of the studs are 100 + miles away ;)

5 minutes on a bike- it's up a hill though! It was an amazing bit of luck and he is a horse of a lifetime for Al!
