How far do you travel to look at a horse??

We live right on the Hants/Berks border and went to Essex, Cardiff and Hereford to look at horses when we were hunting. I was seriously considering going up to Yorkshire to stay with my aunt and have a look around up there too . . . but we found Kal.

I drove 3 and half hours to look at a horse, loved it, they wouldn't let me vet it! So make sure you ask every single question you can before you go - even obvious ones like 'Can I vet it?'

After looking for 6 months, I was even prepared to fly to scotland, I ended up instead going to Ireland.
 
If you ask loads of questions and can do everything you want in one visit then I don't think it matters. When I bought Buddy he was in Shropshire and I was in Berkshire, so about 3 hrs. Legend was far closer at about 20mins!
 
Well I went to Holland and Germany for 3 days which I didn't see as an issue but we did view over 20 horses so it was worthwhile really.

Most of my others have come from Leighton Buzzard which is around 3 hours for me and 3 and a half in the lorry.

2 hours is nothing tbh, I drive that distance regularly to shows.
 
If you're serious, I'd go for it, or perhaps find a couple of others you could view near there too?

We travelled about 2 1/2 hours to view the horse in my sig, on two consecutive weekends, then picked him up on the 3rd after a vetting, that final journey took 3 hours.

However we'd found out a lot about him before hand, so were very serious about buying him :)
 
I limited myself to an hour but I would travel more if it sounded perfect...maybe you can get some videos first? Or arrange to see a few horses in that area on same day to make it worth it.
 
ALL of my horses (had 9 so far) have all come from within 3 miles away :p I did breed 3 though. But my dressage cob (horse of a lifetime) came from the neighbouring farm, from a friend :D

I am looking for another quietly, and I am prepared to go 5/6 hours away.
 
well as a kid I was in Jersey so for all my ponies plus my first horse we flew to the UK and saw horses and ponies all over from kent to anglesey to cornwall!

But with most we had a very specific short list by time we went to see them. In one case we only flew over to see one 12h2 whom we brought and was perfect for me! 14h2s only saw 3 relatively close again one was ideal and actually still own now in his 20s!

Both my 2nd and 3rd horses have literally fallen in my lap so to speak, Dan was 2 miles down the road and Fleur was my old housemate's both couldn't have been closer if they had tried!
