How far do you travel to your horse?

As per title really, am thinking of moving my mare but the only places I can find with decent facilities are quite far away. Well, far away compared to my 10 minute drive at the moment!
How far do you travel and does it affect the type of livery your horse is on?

I moved to be nearer my horse. Previously I travelled 30 mins to the yard daily. Now I'm only 5 mins away.

I would be happy (was happy) to travel further for my horse to be on a superior yard.

I drive about 20-25 minutes to mine, 22 mile round trip. They are on full livery monday to friday, i wouldn't travel that far for diy. ALso i'm on a friends yard so very friendly and lifts on her lorry to events. SHe also teaches me so all in all is worth the journey!!

I travel 25 miles (50 mile round trip) to get to my horse, takes about 1/2 hour each way. Used to live 10 minutes away, but moved in with OH, but left horse where he is. The YO does mornings for me and I go straight from work and weekends. It can get a bit of a chore, but I would rather be at a nice friendly yard where I trust the people and know that my horse is happy, than have somewhere closer to home that isnt as nice. Although - the cost of fuel each week doesnt help!!

Moved horse to be nearer to me (and MUCH better hacking) - now only 7 mins drive (under 3 miles) and pass yard on way to/from work. Were 25/30 mins each way away before but on full livery but not 100% happy. New yard has less facilities but NO stress.

It takes me 20 minutes (11 miles) if I can go the shorter way. If it's a busy time I'll go the longer route which adds another 5 mins.
He is now on full livery 7 days a week and the yard is fantastic.

2 minutes up the road with the best hacking, a school at next door farm, quiet yard with lovely owner. I have done the 30minute drive each way on full livery but found i would much rather do everything and have my horses nearer to home. I know exactly what feed they get, type of hay, can choose my bedding, I save a lot of money and I get to spend that journey time doing something for the horses. : )

I walk for 4-5 minutes. I have been 5 minutes' drive away, then 20, then 10. The furthest place was ok time-wise but the circumstances made me hate it (horse turned away after injury). I'd FAR rather be at the place 5 minutes' drive away, because of the facilities and people, but my horse needs to be out 24/7 now so I'll have to stay put.
Like AmyMay I'd also be happy to drive further for better facilities etc.

Mine is 12 min drive away. There are loads of really fantastic top livery yards near me but I don't need nor want that for my yearling and I'm lucky to have found grass livery as near as I have, everywhere else nearly only does full or part livery. Saying that my little grass livery yard is fab!

About 15 miles which can take from 25 mins to over an hour depending on the traffic out of London. I could keep them 10 mins walk away, but there is no grass t/o which is not for me.

I would rather travel for the right yard. Downside is they are on full livery 2 - 3 days a week as it is just too much time to go up every day (I work long hours and occasionally like to do something else in the evening other than shovel poo and ride) and it is cheaper to have them done in the mornings then use the fuel to get there, let alone the travelling time.

I used to be years ago at a yard 5 mins away and it was nice just to go up and see them and give them a carrot and hug if they were out in the summer twice a day.

I am quite lucky, I go down my drive, cross the road and voila!

Trouble is the hacking is pants. A quiet village but all roads, as all the land is fenced stud farms rather than farms. Wouldn't move unless it was quite close though as I have kids and time is precious!

Before I moved house I travelled an 80 mile round trip the best part of 2 hours driving to get to my horse and I managed this 5 times a week. She was on full livery of course [shock horror

Now I have moved I am down to the luxury of 20 mins and a nominal mileage to what I am used to. [horse in still on full livery tho

It can wear you down the driving so you need to find a happy medium for yourself and your equine partner.

14 miles then another 11 to work, so about 60 miles a day! Takes me 30 minutes to reach my horse from home, and about 50 minutes in the evenings from work. It costs me a bomb in petrol, but my horse is elderly and so happy, plus she doesn't box and I don't think I could find anything as suitable nearer home. At her age (25 and retired) she needs good turnout, not a manege. She is currently out 24/7 but will come in at night from the end of October - before the fireworks get underway!

I'm quite lucky as my current yard is 5 mins drive or 20 minutes on the bike (lots of hills, lol!)
I have driven 30 minutes each way to a DIY yard, but it does really wear you down and is a pain if you forget something or are getting ready for a show.
The further the yard is from the house, the harder it is on the OH and the wallet.
I much prefer being close to the horse as the time I save driving can be put to good riding use!

Before selling my neddy (boo hoo, tis still killing me having to say that), she was at 2 yards. Both were 5 mins away from where I live.

However, the next time I get a horse (in about 3/4 years - it WILL go quickly), if I can't get on the last yard I was on, I would look at a couple that are 15/20 mins away from me. The facilities are fab, second to none, but they are serious competition yards though (Somerford Park and Smallwood).
