How far do you travel to your horse?

Well I was talking to a mate and shes jusy moved yards but is now traveling 45mins each way to her horse, she works full time and is on DIY, so thats 3hrs traveling to the horse a day!

Mines 5mins from the house and is a few fields over the way, but i can (just) about see him from my bedroom. on a DIY private yard just 2 others, No school but one up the road for free use, but lots of good hacking

So how far do you travel?
What livery type are you on?
And why do you choose that yard? is it the facities? or Grazing?
 
Less than 10 minutes in the car. About 30 minutes if we walk across the fields to get to the yard. We are DIY with just our own horses at the yard we went. We chose where we are because of ability to manage the grazing how we wanted, no livery yard politics and fabulous hacking.
 
Currently exactly 4 miles (10 minutes by car) from the house and 6 miles (but about 1/2 hour due to rush hour and going through a busy town centre) from work to horses.

Am moving the gang next month and from home will be about 6 miles and from work about the same as before.

Half hour each way is the most I would ever want to do.
 
5 mins at the moment but I am moving back to my old yard - better facilities, which is 7 miles/15 mins away (country lanes take time to navigate). Would love something in my own back yard but unless I (or BH) win the Lotto, no chance......:(
 
we timed it, for some odd reason i dont remeber and it took us 8mins to get there by car :) lol
DIY but i wouldt want any over livery i like doing it all my self :)
why i choose it coz it has great factiles and very nice people

My boy lives across the road and up a bit approx 1minute walk from my front door, i can see him from window :D previously he was on a yard about 5/6miles away..
 
20min walk through fields with horses in that are from another yard then down the canter path and im there =]
or 15mins in the car
i quite enjoy the walk at the moment as i walk through a field a lady is renting that has 2 mares with foals and 3 gelding all rescued nice to see them getting better
and im on a fab diy yard with about 30 other horses

:eek: That must get a bit tedious at times.

So how far do you travel? Live on site
What livery type are you on? I suppose you could say that I am DIY;), but my Boarders are all on Full Pasture Board
And why do you choose that yard? At the time because the house wasn't falling down and I was sick of living in hotels:(

is it the facilities? The barns weren't falling down either which was a bonus

or Grazing? Well, we had grass, just no fencing when we started, still getting that sorted 4 years on.

I travel 14 miles from home which takes me 30 mins on a good run but it is only 6 miles from work and i only work part time (4.5 hours per day).

I am on DIY and the yard is amazing, there aren’t a lot of yards round this area that have all year turnout, good riding facilities and good hacking so i have to travel.

It is worth every minute in the car to see my horses happy.
 
Mine is within 10 mins walking distance or a couple of mins by car. It's definately a huge plus point having them so close to home, but I am missing out on better facilities that are on offer at yards a bit further away.

The important things are good enough though and the horses are happy so I have no intention of moving, even though I often get tempted when the school is flooded or too deep ... again.

It was a great relief being able to walk to the yard in the heavy snow we had at the beginning of this year. Most people without 4x4s couldnt get out, and my OH had to use ours to get to work, so it would have been difficult for me otherwise.
 
Today mine are 2 fields walk away. ;) In winter they are in the field in front of the house. I wouldn't go back to livery for a lottery win. :D Our only facilities are the fields mainly with drystone walls as boundaries and reasonably quiet/off-road hacking. We don't and can't have a school as we live in a conservation area in an area of outstanding landscape amenity.
BUT we have horsey neighbours who all help each other out as necessary and when we couldn't get out because of the snow, we didn't need to worry about getting to the horses. And as one of our neighbours was supplying and storing our hay that was no problem either.:)
 
Mine are kept at home. Stables are outside kitchen window and field outside Living room window. No proper "facilities" at all though. The hacking is amazing, from quiet roads and tracks to forestry tracks to stubble fields to huugggee hills (cheviots). I have a marked off area in small paddock which I use for schooling. All the neighbours (closest 4 miles) are horsey and we meet up every weekend. I love it.
 
25 minutes each way but they are on Part Livery so only have to make one journey each day. I chose this yard because it's in area with fab hacking and has good facilities. Also, the yard is lovely and the horses are well looked after there.
 
Depending on traffic mine are about 15 mins away :)
They used to be at a yard only 5 mins away but it was owned by a farmer, so I felt there was no horsey people on stand by when I wasn't there and it was diy so I was up twice a day. Whereas at the place I am now the people are amazing, would do anything for you and I'm assisted diy so only have to go up once!
I have been at a yard with amazing facilities but a **** atmosphere whereas now I'm at a small friendly yard with only a tiny small outdoor school with great people, all year turnout and fab hacking ... you would have to pay me to leave!
 
About 5 seconds across the yard- he's at home. I don't have an arena but there is one to hire just around the corner. I mostly hack, though.
 
15 mins driving and about a 30 min walk if you go through the woods rather than the roads. Both my horses are now on part livery as i decided to start doing my own jobs, iv got plenty of time. Chose yard because of the facilities.
