Just wondering how far (in time/miles) you travel to your livery yard each day? And what would you consider a reasonable distance, once a day. And does your journey consist of roads, lanes, or motorway travel?

Have been to look at quite a few very nice yards recently , ranging from a 10 minute bike ride, to 20 minutes in the car, mostly on the motorway.

About 10 steps! I'm lucky i have mine at home

though one horse i had was on a yard about 30 miles away for about 6 months, it was the only place i could get at the time and was down the road from work, weekends were a pain though, i would go down in the morning, sleep in the truck most of the day

, get woken by one of the other liveries

, then ride etc in the late afternoon before coming early evening. That was a pain, soon moved him when i found somewhere closer!

About half a mile away (such a lucky lucky find!) The distance wouldn't worry so much as the amount of time it will take to get there in a badly timed emergency (eg if you got an urgent call at rush hour on a friday before bank holiday weekend) I would be reluctant to keep my horses anywhere that my normal 10min/20min journey might take an hour because of traffic.

Depends if I am at my mums or my boyfriends.. Mums is a 5 min walk away btu OH is 35miles but on motorway... Bit annoying if you forget something etc and no way could I do it if my mums wasn't up the road.
Furthest from my mums we have had them was a 15min drive but the times we were there clashed with commuters and made one of the junctions a nightmare... If it wasn't for that it wasn't too bad, I like them to be close enough for me to cycle if something should happen to my car! I think it would take me a day to cycle from OH's!!

9miles from home, but about 5miles from work

I go in the mornings on the way to work, and it takes me about 15/20mins to the yard in the mornings, and about 30-40mins from work because of the traffic. Its a couple of miles on an A road, then a couple of miles on very country lanes

26 miles one way - takes between 30mins-1 hr depending on traffic. It is a mix of city driving, A roads, motorway and B roads. There are several routes though, so if one route gets closed off (happens regularly) I can use another route but it adds another 20-30mins to the journey.

They have nice stables, good school and AYTO on a friendly yard, so I dont mind the travel. I would choose to travel 10 mins further away for a better quality livery yard than be 10 mins closer for a rubbish yard. Obviously if I had all of this in my garden I wouldnt complain!

16 miles from home to farm, then about 11 from farm to work - repeat in the evening. It takes me 30 minutes for stage 1, about 1 hour for stage 1 so its a really long day for me. It is 60% motorway, 5% country lanes, and the rest on urban streets. Not ideal for me, my petrol costs or my poor little car but I wouldn't move her.

About 15 miles, on a good run 20 mins on a bad run up to 45 mins. It consists of roads then motorway then roads then a sort of country road. It can be quite a haul some days but the great hacking, walker and 2 all weather schools make it all worthwhile!

Hard one, as I know I might have to move mine further afield once I need better facilities. However, most decent yards, with facilities, have yard managers to take care of emergency situations should they arise. God forbid something terrible should happen in my absence, but should it, I would trust my vet and the YM to handle the situation until my arrival, whatever the delay.

3 miles, takes five minutes to get there but anything up to 20 to get back if I get stuck in traffic - sail through the first 2.2 miles and then could walk the last bit quicker, as soon as I hit the road I live on it's nose to tail all along (hence why I want to move!) It was fine until they opened a new road close by, now it's the quickest route from a major commuting town into the city!

Not to livery yard, but to my own rented yard....

4 miles door to door. 1st half, surburb/village roads, 2nd half single track rural roads. 10 minutes exactly by car. 1 hour to walk. 40 mins to cycle there, 15 mins to cycle back (there is a huge hill halfway, which you have to go up to get to the yard - I simply haven't got the strength in my legs to cycle up it yet! However cycling home can be great fun!)

aboutt 4miles and 7 mins away road can be busy at rush hour but only adds 10mins onto journey and there is a back route
i wish i had one i could walk to - not that i do the driving hahaha

6.1 miles. 15 min drive. Town driving then onto dual carriageway, it isn't an awful journey as I don't live in the centre of town

At home during holidays, 2.4miles during term time away at uni, I would not be willing to travel more than 6miles to a yard because I have to be in my lectures for 9am, I am lazy and usually pretty hungover and would not like the early mornings to drive there, or get stuck in the morning traffic.

I used to travel 20 miles!

I now travel exactly 0.5 of a mile and would never ever have my horse so far away again!

3 min walk. Although within the village to get to my friends' horse it varies from 3 mins to 10 mins walk maximum! There are horses in back gardens all down the village.

12.5 miles from home takes between 20 and 40 minutes depending on traffic.

Have to go through town and then some bendy lanes.

I work 10 miles from home in the other direction.

I do a 70 mile round trip a day at least, usually more as I'm doing CP work whether its a vet run or dropping in on one of our fosterers.

It is not kind to my petrol LWB Frontera or my pocket!

But my horses are happy where they are and I would not move them even if I could have them on my doorstep.

We're currently looking at property closer to the stables.
