How far do you travel to your livery yard?

I am in the process of trying to find a new yard for my horse, current yard is 5 miles from home and takes about 10 mins.

Just wondering how far others travel to their yards as trying to decide how far is too far? I know I have to weigh in cost of fuel etc but if facilities are better than how much is worth it??

Any comments are welcomed to try and make my decisions easier!! Sadly although current yard has everything required, yard politics have gone too far and not prepared to stay somewhere where problems don't get dealt with!

My yard is 1.5 miles from home - 2 mins in car or 20 mins if walking.

I think it would depend on facilities at the yard and the time you have available for travelling to determine whether a yard is too far or not.

My yard is 7 miles from home. I wouldn't want to travel much further to be honest. The facilities are pretty rubbish but I can get there pretty quick if needs be. I'm lucky because there are plenty of yards of varying standards all within 7 miles of my house :)

16 miles each way, I could have a really nice yard half that distance and I was at it but moved due to having a young horse and needed help, my old yard was lovely but quiet I'm now at a large competition yard but need to be there to progress with my horse.

Mine is 16 miles away, takes about 30 mins in the car. It's half way between work and home (kind of), and although it's not just 5 mins up the road I wouldn't change it. I love it there. You need to prioritise what you need - if it's facilities or atmosphere or whatever then I think it's worth sacrificing convenience.

between 30 to 40 minutes on public transport depending on connections as I walk, get the tube, get the bus and then walk a bit more. Would love him closer but as I live in London it's the best I can do. It's actually only about 7 miles away, but even in a car it would take half an hour as the roads are a pain. The nice thing about public transport as it isn't completely dead time - you can read a book, do some work etc.

15 minutes door to door - I've been at yards further away and personally find I lose the enjoyment I get from horses and don't spend quality time with them when I know I have to spend so much time and money commuting.

Sorry about this, stables are 10 yards from our front door.
We can see all our horses from our garden.

I know we are so fortunate.

Good luck with your search

25 mile round trip, takes about 25 mins each way.

I'd go twice as far for this yard - facilites aren't anything much out of the ordinary but the standard of care is second to none and the YO is just brilliant.

Mine's 7 miles and takes about 10 mins. not too far to 'pop up' for things that actually need doing. a bit too far just to say hello!

planning to move jobs so that yard is on the way to work so will be guaranteed to see horses twice daily :D

Mine is 10 miles and takes about 20 minutes. Worth it for indoor school and 5* care. Although have just got a job 10 miles in the opposite direction of my house! which could make things interesting!

5 miles which takes about 10 minutes. Used to be 2 mins up the road or 25 minute walk so this seems really far away! I probably wouldn't ever travel more than 20 mins though, even if the facilities were really good.

About 4 miles and that takes 5 - 10 minutes depending on what way I go! I have been further away but wouldn't really want to again as its nice to nip up there when I need something and he's on DIY so have to be there twice a day anyway. For me I am on a yard with good turnout and nice people and that's paramount for me so I wouldn't want to move any time soon.

Where my gelding currently is, is 10.9 miles away and my mare is about 6ish miles away from home and even less from work (keep meaning to clock it). Gelding is only so far away as when I moved in March, nowhere had any spaces. Just waiting until the end of the month and he will be joining the mare.

I can see my stable from my front door ;-) I can see him from my kitchen window grazing at the moment :)

Mine is 22miles one way but we've just bought a house closer to the yard and it's 2.2miles from door to door :D. It's such a great place for the horses that it's worth the move even if some non-horsey people think I'm a bit mad lol

I woud probably still be at my current yard if i lived further away as its fab & facilities are great, however I am quite lucky as its only 3 and a half miles away :)
