thinking about livery yards further afield as nothing local to me but need to be realistic about distance/traffic.

how far do you all travel?

thanks

17-20 mins from home, anything from 30mins to an hour from work as traffic can be so bad! But I only go up after work as yard turn out for me so not too bad.

15 mins without any traffic, 25 with some traffic and 35 - 60 mins with usual heavy traffic. I have to go over dual carriageways to get to my yard so it can vary massively in rush hour and things like that.

i have been various distances, but much prefer where i am in part due to its distance from home.

Yard 1 was 2.2 miles - not a good yard only used for grass livery
Yard 2 was 13miles - lovely private yard with a friend, stayed for a few years until moved away with work - hugely affected by rush hour traffic, could take anywhere from 20mins-1hr to get the in the evening
Yard 3 was 7 miles - gorgeous yard, good hacking moved due to horse needing 24/7 turn out for recovery - not really affected by rush hour traffic, 15-20mins most days sometimes 30mins
Yard 4 was 8.5 - OK yard, suited at the time, moved back to part livery at next yard once horse was working again, really affected by traffic, ended up taking longer routes to avoid would usually take 1/2 hour to get there.
Yard 5 (current) 3.2miles - lovely yard perfect for what we need - not affected by traffic at any time of day really only 10 mins in the car

To me, the issue isn't really mileage but how much traffic is on route at busy times of the day, school pick up/ rush hours so i would check this before committing to a yard, yard 8 and 2 were real pains if there was an event/ accident/ wedding . . . absolutly everything seemed to effect traffic on this (same) route!

3 miles, in good weather & when I don't meet any cyclists it takes about 5 minutes. Winter is a different story & when the roads are bad the 3 miles can take 20 minutes providing I don't get stuck on the hills! Perhaps I should invest in a 4wd!

My current yard is 20 miles from home - it can take as little as 35 minutes and as much as an hour and a half depending on the time of day. I deliberately avoid going there during rush hour. It's only 4 miles from work though :).

It's quite far to travel but my horse is on full livery so I don't have to go 2x a day and it's absolutely the best hacking available. I can go left out of the yard straight onto a bridlepath leading to woods that get to a small beach. If I go right I have miles and miles of common to ride on, which joins up to another common and a few different woods with bridlepaths through them. I can go left and avoid the woods - meaning a whole 5 minutes of quiet road work - which will take me to a track that goes to 3 different beaches and I can ride on all of them! I love my yard :p.

About a mile up a very bumpy stony uphill track that runs from the back of my house to the yard. I could walk it but 9 times out of 10 take the car as go on the way to/from work and most often have my 3 year old in tow as it's her pony!

When I go first thing on a morning before work (around 6.30am) it takes 12 minutes (yes i've clocked it haha) but the roads are pretty dead.

On a weekend when there is normal weekend traffic 15/20mins. After work, normally around 20 mins as I finish *just* before rush hour, if I work late it can take anywhere between 30/40 mins to get there. Around 6 miles away.

4 miles from home and 3 miles from work :) I moved for this reason as I was spending hours and hours driving back and forth to my last yard when they decided to start major roadworks on the main route that lasted nearly a year. Best thing I ever did.

12 mins on a good run from home, up to 20 mins with Sunday drivers and cyclists.
A solid 30 mins from work due mostly to traffic getting out of the town, once out the run is clear. With a clear rub it takes just under 20 mins but these are rare.

About 8 miles from home which takes anything from 20 to 30 minutes to drive. However, during the week I go straight from work which is in North London with 2 tubes and a train journey taking approx 1 hour to an hour and a half from the office to my local station followed by a 10-15 minutes drive to the yard.

1.8 miles if I walk through the woods and across the golf club, 2.2miles if I drive. Work is 4 miles in the opposite direction. In winter I usually go straight to the yard from work which is about 5 miles and takes about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic.

about 15- 20 minutes. I go 2 junctions down a motorway then 2 miles or so off it. I can be affected by traffic, but its quite a quiet bit of motorway- so if I'm in a major rush or need to get there quickly, it can take me as little as 10 minutes. Its about 15 miles or so.

Mine was/is 4 mins from my house exactly. Was great for location, love everything about it. Now, I live with my boyfriend so its a 25 min drive to the yard! We are moving soon, and it will be 15 mins about, which is still a long time considering I will be living on a Livery yard :P

22 miles from home and 9.2 from work.

Takes 35-45 mins from home, rarely any traffic and takes 20-35 mins from work traffic dependent.

I only go once a day though.

I love my yard and would rather move house to be closer to yard and work, than move yards.

When I first got my mare I was travelling 30 - 40 minutes to the yard, you quickly get used to it and it becomes no big deal! you might even start to enjoy the drive! Pop on your favourite music and have a sing song on your way there!
Now I am lucky and my mare is literally 5 minutes down the road!
