I am in the process of trying to find a new yard for my horse, current yard is 5 miles from home and takes about 10 mins.

Just wondering how far others travel to their yards as trying to decide how far is too far? I know I have to weigh in cost of fuel etc but if facilities are better than how much is worth it??

Any comments are welcomed to try and make my decisions easier!! Sadly although current yard has everything required, yard politics have gone too far and not prepared to stay somewhere where problems don't get dealt with!

I was in a DIY yard with no facilities which was 5 mins from home and 1 min from office, moved to yard with everything - hay/feed/bedding/school/all year round grazing/24 hour supervision/ but 20 mins drive, best decision i ever made now have time to concentrate on horse instead of loading hay/straw, changing electric fencing and all the never ending jobs that you do on a yard.
Also when i worked out the cost over the year taking into account muck removal, fertilising, hay cost etc it actually works out cheaper in the long term and have people to ride with, fantastic hacking, trailers to borrow, and best of all we have a real laugh and discuss our horses and their varying problems and support each other when it all goes pete tong!! Do a list of pros and cons and cost etc, good luck, let us know when you have decided.

10 minutes to my current yard. Used to travel up to 30 minutes but found was losing an hour in traveling there and back so less time to spend with horse.

I drive 19 miles to my yard, twice a day so in total that's 76 miles a day. However the yard is the best in the area with all the facilities we need, nice people and my horse is happy.
I've looked at yards closer but they either don't have something I want or can't do something I need so to me it's worth the drive.

I used to be at yard which was 4 miles away but horses escaped off farm so had to move. We are now at a lovely yard with amazing facilities and hacking but is 10 miles away. I was worried about the distance at first but after a month, I am now getting used to it and it is totally worth it!

I used to be on.a yard an hour away althou eventually The driving got to me. I stayed there fir 2 ways & wud recommend to anyone in area. Now on yard 15 minutes from home. Gettin see my girl more & she's happy so I'm happy.

First yard was 12 miles from home, second yard is a bit less than 9 miles - both DIY and I go twice a day.

They were good roads though for most of the journey - that makes much more of a difference than distance I find!

Mine have always been around 17 miles away, so 20 mins drive, but currently are at home
