Hi, Just wondering how far people will travel to their field/yard every day. I'm currently only 5 mins away from mine but have to relocate in the next few weeks and my new field is going to be about 20 mins away.

A few minutes by car, 10 mins walk. Its a lovely yard and soo close BUT there's no school, which is a problem. Its also very small and quiet so hardly ever have company to hack out etc.
Would have to move somewhere at least a 20 minute drive away for a school, more liveries and a few activities, but the added cost in time and money is putting me off. Its a real dilemma.

0.6 miles :)
I feel so lucky to have this field, it's perfect for me! Before I got a reply from the people who own it, I was going to move him 25miles away...now I realise I could never have done that!

4 and a bit miles, 15 mins drive.

I'd cycle it but there is a humungous hill to scale in both directions, so instead I take my bike to the yard and go out from there.

When I had mine at home when I was at school, it was 20 metres. I miss that!

5 miles, or slightly less. Driving there depends on traffic but it doesn't take very long. I sometimes walk and that takes 1hr 30 mins. Cycling takes 20 mins ish

10 seconds sounds good to me :-). I suppose my 20 minute drive isn't so bad, worth it to find such a nice field anyway. Il just have to get up earlier and go to bed later ;-). Thanks for replies guys.

I've just moved 2 of mine to a yard 18 miles away, so it takes me about 30 min to get there. I did have them at home for over 3 years but that wasn't sustainable and the yard I've moved too is quite exceptional in it's services and facilities. I'm willing to move house so I'm closer too it if it works out.

I did once have a horse at a yard 45 min away when I lived back home, again the yard was exceptional.

1/2 a mile, so a couple of minutes drive or an easy walk which makes all the difference when I'm doing currently doing three trips a day. Last yard was a 20 minute drive, and opposite direction to work, I worked out if I was only doing two trips a day I've saved myself over four hours a week in travelling, not sure what I'm doing with it though, still seem to never have enough time!

But, if the yard / field is worth it would definitely do the longer journey again.

20 minute drive, from work and home :) I have to compromise a lot, costs me a fortune in petrol cause my car just drinks it, pretty much no grazing and in the winter its knee high mud but the people are lovely, my horse is happy there, we have a floodlit school, hacking is good and its cheap! But does get annoying when in the winter it's too icy to hack out, YO wants the horses in because they get bored and wreck the fencing but then the school gets locked because it's frozen so horses have to stay in all day! (sometimes for a few days :/ )

6.5 miles away and around 12 mins in the car, traffic pending. Would cycle if i could, but commute is on a very busy road and time is of the essence during the weekdays when i want to get there asap after work.

Was at a yard 20 miles away but the petrol consumption and peak time traffic was a nightmare, ..that and other issues with the yard made me re-think and i'm now so lucky to have found somewhere so much nearer....ahhhh, the de-stress button was well and truely pressed when i made this decision. I'd never move my horse so far away again. The only regret i had was leaving behind a couple of friends i made, but we keep in touch which is great. :)

Currently, to get to where my loan horse is, about 12 miles, taking 25 mins.........but when we get our new horse - (first one!) he will be at yard just up road from house, about 3 mins in car - can't wait!! There are two outdoor schools with floodlights, and compromise to closeness is that there is no indoor school.......but I can live with that

0.5 miles - 1 min in car, 5 mins on bike or 10min walk! Love the fact it is so close. It probably isn't the best yard ever, but is cheap, has all year turnout and a huge floodlit arena!!

15 paces from one - will eventually be attached to the house so will just need to open door from passageway and about 20 minutes from the other, although hopefully that will be sold soon.
