How far do you travel to your yard?

i feel your pain! getting me DL was the best day of my life at that time!

current yard is about 8miles from home i think and takes about 15mins what ever time of day, the route doesnt seem to be affected by rush hour which is nice! plus there is only a couple of sets of traffic lights the whole way there, which considering i live in the traffic light capital of the south is pretty remarkable!

previous yard was half an hour and about 14miles away and was horrifically affected by rush hour or any sort of traffic and could take upto an hour and a half to get there if you left at the wrong time, but would deffinatly go back if i needed to, was very much worth it! but current yard is lovely too, just waiting on the school to be finished! :)
 
Current yard is 15 minutes with no traffic or up to 45 with traffic, it's only 5 miles but can get stupidly blocked up. It's also the opposite direction from work, has no winter turnout and the school surface is getting worse by the day.

With all that in mind I am moving to a new yard with one of my friends in October. New yard is also 15 minutes away but is twice the distance as its using faster roads. It is on the way to work though which will save me a lot of time in the morning. Facilities are fab, 2 outdoors and an indoor and all year turnout (only half days when it's really wet, but even that is hard to come by round here so we are happy with getting some turnout). Really looking forward to it now :)

Very jealous of those that have their ponies at home - one day maybe
 
My current yard is 8.6 miles from my house and takes about 20 minutes to get to however, I am moving on Saturday and new yard is 2.5 miles from my house and about 5 minutes drive!
 
Urgh, I'm obviously a long distance yard commuter. Takes me 30-35 mins generally but I'm in London so hard to get yards that are closer and as good. 2 hours from office to yard, with a detour home to pick up the car. I must be mad eh. Thank god for full livery and a floodlit school. Not so bad in the summer but winter is trickier.
 
A minutes walk

We had a long discussion before renting our field. It was important to us that we were able to get somewhere in walking distance as we regularly get snowed in during winter and also my husband doesn't drive

If we lost the land I think we would have to think very carefully about what to do - full livery would be my preference, once a yard becomes a drive I wouldn't mind whether it was 5 minutes or 30 minutes to be honest as a drive is a drive!

8 miles would finish me off altogether! No wonder you were happy to get your license :)
 
About 10 steps. However, soon to be about 5 miles (about 2 miles across the fields if I fancied walking..!) as moving house and hence won't have the luxury of horses on my doorstep :( going to miss the luxury, although looking forward to indoor stables and an indoor menage..! :)
 
About 5 minutes by car (1.8 miles), 1.4 miles by bike (can go a more direct route!). However it takes me 10 minutes (2.8 miles) to get home as I can't go home the way I travel there!!! It's the only annoying thing about the whole yard! Somehow I think I can put up with it... ;)
 
Half an hour! It's literally the closest yard to us. The traffic can be bad, it's taken up to an hour in the past. Horse is on DIY and it is a pain, to do twice a day :( Thinking of paying someone to turn out in the morning during the week. Probably works out cheaper than petrol and bridge toll. Oh yes, that's right, have to pay for a toll bridge every day as well! It comes to about £300 a year.
 
for the past few years, I have travelled 3 miles up the road, however we have finally moved everything under one roof. So it now takes me 30 seconds to get to the neddies. I can actually see them from my living room ! its amazing.:D
 
1 hr by buses, can be 1 hr 30 if I miss one as its half hourly from my house. 30 minutes if I can get a lift.
From work it takes me two hours. Thank God its only a part loan. I think it'd kill me if I had to do it every day!
 
I've got horses across 2 yards ( a DIY livery yard and a farm) which are 10 miles apart.
My house is roughly in the middle of both, so 5 or so miles to each
Farm is closer to my work but livery yard is easier to get to in the morning from my house. Luckily my friend at the farm does my horse there most mornings and I try to do evenings.

Lucky you - maybe one day I'll be able to do the same. That reminds me, I've got a few lottery tickets to check :D
 
9 miles - takes about 15 minutes on good roads with little traffic.

There is a shorter route of about 6 miles but it's all single lane, twisty back roads and actually takes longer.
 
Google maps says 2.4miles, 8 mins but seems less in distance and is definitely less in time - can do it in 5 mins. That's home to there but in evening I'm usually coming from work, 2.9miles, 9 mins :) However that defo takes more than 9 mins as very busy A road at rush hour. So that would take me anywhere from 20-30 mins due to sitting at lights and in queues.
 
Not read the whole thread but we are in the process of moving the boy to a yard 3.7miles from my house, 9 minutes drive, and I am thinking that that was on the verge of being too far away in winter!?
