... to your yards ?
Am looking to move and what appears to be perfect yard is 20 / 25 mins drive away from home (or an extra 20 mins on my journey home from work). Current less than perfect yard is only 10 mins away. HAVE to leave current yard, cant bear it any longer, but can I live with the extra journey time (cost of extra fuel not an issue, just time).

What milage to you make to get to your yards ?

x

id probably go for the better yard. Im 4 miles away but it takes me 15-20 minutes due to traffic so id be happier to use that on a more speedy route which was further milage wise

7 miles, 15 mins... have been at a few yards 25-30 mins away and it was a pain. One of them was a lovely yard with xc course and fab hacking but the journey was horrible (1/2 town driving, 1/2 tiny windy country lanes) and I arrived at the yard stressed because of all the near misses I had on the way with tourists who drove too quick and in the middle of the road! Much prefer the closer yard, it means I can pop up and pop back in decent time without taking too big a chunk of the day away (i.e. I can fit the horses around uni lectures, essays and revision easily :) )

Before I had a horse I used to travel 25/30 mins each way to look after my friend's mum's horse for a 5 week period. It did begin to get me down and I was relieved that I was not going to keep my horse there when I finally got one.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the yard, all the horses were lovely, hacking was literally on the doorstep, sand school, and best of all my friend was there - but after work and in the dark it gets to be a bit too much like hard work. Probably not so bad in the summer.

My current yard is 5/10 minutes drive, hacking not so readily accessible, people nice (but not as good as having my friend there), but I prefer it because the journey is so much acceptable.

Also, the extra time is spent with my horse and not driving.

Probably not what you wanted to hear.

I travel 15 mins (7 miles) to my yard. My previous yard was 1 minute away by car, so I really had to weigh it up - but it was worth it. New yard is fab in every way, and I have now secured a job just 5 mins from it so it's all good :D

19 Miles to the yard from my house and takes me 10 -15 mins to get there in the morning but 25 to 30 mins to get home in the rush hour...so timing is vital!!!

I pass 2 yards on the way to mine but one doesn't have winter turnout and the other has limited facilities so i travel to get to a yard that suits my needs.

From my old house, yard was about 15-20 mins away by car. A pain but not so much so that it ever really bothered me. Now, I live 1 min away by car and 5 by bike. It's the same yard, but was always worth the extra drive anyway :)

Mine is a 20 minute cycle from work / 12 minute cycle from home. Given there's not many yards in London I will base future house and job choices on her current location as I'm reliant on my bike and the buses.

My horses are kept at my mums house which is 25 mins away. Also 25 mins extra added to my journey home from work. At the moment I drive 2 1/2 hours in total a day (going to work and then going home via mums) which is 80 miles :( I have however just accepted a new job which is closer thankfully (and also bought a new car today as the mileage has recked my current one)! Should only be 1 1/2 hours total travel time instead... The joys of living in rural Scotland!!

An hour each way for me :( when I first moved to uni though it was a 4 hour journey so a big improvement really :)

25-30 mins depending on time of day, although horse is on full livery so thankfully only there once a day otherwise the distance would get me down. But would rather travel further for a decent yard with top notch facilities

I live on the yard, the nearest paddock is 15' from my back door.

Before I was lucky enough to be able to have them at home the yard was a 5 minute bike ride, so that wasn't too bad at all. I wouldn't have horses at all now if I had to travel, can't be doing with the hassle and yard politics anymore.

I have owners here that live over 50 miles away, the furthest away is 2000 miles, needless to say, we don't see her very often.

Around 12miles (would be atleast 10miles to a decent yard as i live in middle of nowhere and there are barely any yards nearby) Takes about 20mins. Hacking isnt brill but isnt awful but it has a lovely sand/rubber school and because there are only 4 horses there (2 that belong to owner of property and the 2 i'm helping with), there is no bitchiness etc. oh there is the most adorable miniture donkey and pony that are also there that also put a smile on your face! They make such a cute pair!!

Between 7-10 mins depending on traffic. Was at a yard about half an hour away but couldnt bear the distance.

well I've taken the plunge to go for the yard further away. Its got super facilities, hacking and great summer and winter turn out and run by professional riders. I'm going with a friend so we can share driving and chores etc and we are getting part livery so only need to go after work during the week.
I suppose you never know if you've made the right decision until you get there and settle in. But I got a good vibe the minute I drove through the gates. Moving end of the month.

Our current yard is 25 minutes away. It is perfect for what we want though and has fantastic facilities so it is definitely worth it!

My shares are 20min away, from either uni or 'home' which i don't think is bad. Although i do often drive the 60 miles from my OH's at the moment. It kills me though.

I'm moving in a month though and will be an hour away from them (mostly motorway), so just going to see them at weekends then.

I'm surprised at how many people seem to travel that every day, is it on the way home from work or something? Don't think i could do an hour and back every day! Especially if i was commuting to work as well. Killer.

My horses are split, I have 2 about 3 metres outside my back door and the other one is a 5 min drive up the road on livery.
