How far do you travel, either in time or miles to get to your "normal" comps, ie not champs, etc? I think that makes sense.

What do you consider as acceptable?

Just wondering really, we don't have that many venues around us.

Thanks! After today, we are going to need it!

That makes me feel a little better. One venue is 56 miles away and will take about an hour and a half. Doesn't seem so bad if you travel 2.5 hours!

Oh he just went really crap!

Last week, our canter was lovely, balanced and relaxed, today it was at top speed and on the forehand. I think i might give him some of my Kalms tablets!

Hmmm, that makes me feel a little better.
I guess it doesnt help that I do not enjoy driving my lorry. I wouldn'tgo as far as saying i was terrified but I do get a little panicy and so frustrated that it goes so slowly. Wish I could, i dunno, put more powerful engine in it!

Im also always worried that it will brake down. So far, it has broken down once but i really dont have any confidence in it!

) Plus an extra 15 -20 mins due to slow lorry and crap driver!

For everyday competitions I usually travel a max of one hour but it tends to be 40 minutes. I am so sad that I have made a list of all the show centres in the South East near me, then done an RAC routemap planner to work out exactly how far/long it takes to get to them from my yard. These are my usual haunts!

Cobham Manor 20 miles/30 minutes
Stilebridge 22 miles/33 minutes
Duckhurst Farm 25 miles/45 minutes
Oldencraig Equestrian Centre Ltd 34 miles/42 minutes

nearest for bd and bsja and be is 30 mins but we have travelled up to 6 hours and stayed over and 5 back again.
pg and i will have to travel to nationals soon! lol

see you there PG!

i've been having some problems with something similar! we have plenty of shows around us in the yard we're at now as it is not completely 'in the sticks'. we are now looking at another yard, due to problems at our present one, but it really is in the middle of no-where. it's only about five miles in the opposite direction but that direction leads down windy roads, which are quiet but very long and twisty. this would add another half an hour to the journey. the new yard used to host shows, which would have been great as i have never competed before and want to start small after our pony had a leg injury (and we dont have a box yet) but they are thinking of stopping them!!

my mum is nervous of driving a box and thinks the journey might be too much. but this is the only thing that is stopping us moving to a quieter yard with less problems and the best hacking i have ever seen. i have a good feeling about this yard but dont want it to be a hastle getting to and from competitions as i really would like to make my mark in the area

xXxGood things always come from a cheeky pony that keeps you on your toesxXx

Travel is the bain of my life. My nearest indoor venuue is an hour and a half away. So for dressage and show jumping in the winter I generally travel upto 2 and a half hours or just over 100 miles.

Eventing is more of a problem the furthest we have traveled is Weston and Sansaw which is just over 7 hours away and on average I guess we travel 4 hours. Our nearest Intermediate event is Pontispool which is 3 and haslf hours some of the N and Pn are closer.

If I want to do it I have to travel!

God, you really do have it tough.

I just hate driving my lorry. Do you think, if I explained, my mum would buy me a shiny new one that i would feel happier in?????

I'm really lucky in that I have Golden Cross 5 mins away and Crockstead about 15 mins from me. There's lots of other show centers easily within an hour away.
I took Axey to Keysoe last year and stayed overnight, but that was for the UK champs.
It must be a pain being so far away from places, but at least you have your own transport. I'm still saving up for a lorry so at the moment I'm having to get lifts off people

For dressage and SJ up to an hour tops, usually more like 30mins, BE is always within a 2 hour radius of home!, driver/groom wont traavel further and to be honest we don't need to as there is plenty going on round here

Apparently you can hack there in the summer but the bridleway at the moment is horrible and muddy. I can just imagine turning up for a dressage comp looking like I'd just been hunting

Hopefully the pony will be sold soon and I can buy a lorry then

In the evenings - a max of 45 min, but usually 25 min.
At the weekend (SJ or dressage) - 45 min
Eventing - closest is 40 min, furthest is 2 hours.

You would be even more worried about hitting a shiny new one!

Hee Hee, I was having a 'discussion' with the OH about my credit card bills, and he said that he would not complain if the shows I went to regularly were only 10 miles away! Included in my radius are Bold Heath, Warren Farm, Church Farm, Charity Farm and Standish ODE! As have decent shows on my doorstep I don't need to travel a long way, but I am also lucky to have a house 1 minute from the motorway so I can also get to Barton,Osbaldeston, Somerford Park and South View in an Hour!

Sorry sounds like I am bragging now!

I always had assumed that where you are is very horsy ie plenty of venues.
90 min is a long way for some SJ.
