I tend to go 1.5hrs max for a normal show, and a bit longer for some county shows, up to 3 hours. Our nearest venue is 30mins away, and only one county show is within a 1hr drive.
For unaffliated I travel about 1/2 hour. There is an outdoor arena which has dressage and SJ on alternative weeks which is handy. Although I don't do affilated dressage or SJ that arena does it every now and again. The closest indoor arena is about 1 and 1/2 hours away and theres more closer to Aberdeen. For ODEs we often drive the 2 to 2 1/2 hours to aberdeen for unaffliated but have travelled 5 to get to Houston for BE.
Depends what the event is! If its crappy dressage (which we dont do very often as I HATE it!) then I'll only go to nearby competitions (max 45 mins away) simply coz I hate it so much that I cant be bothered!! For unaffiliated SJ and ODE's I'd probably go max and hour and a half. For BSJA, Id go usually between 45mins and and hour and a half. For BE, I tend to go further since they're more spread out. I'll usually go 3 hours happily, anymore than that and it needs to be offering a qualifier or something!
Used to be 5 minutes from a venue that does clear round showjumping up to BSJA (Norton Heath) so hacked there a few time...we're now about 20 minutes from it.
There's quite a few round here though - Bluegate, Runningwell, Towerlands etc. so I don't think we'll be travelling more than an hour for the sort of stuff we're doing at the moment.
I'd be prepared to travel up to 1-2hrs for a bigger show. I wouldn't want to do anymore than that if I could avoid it unless I had a box (currently have a trailer).
You need to move to the New Forest piaffe! We have beautiful hacking, yet are 10 mins from the M27 and then easy access to Kingston Marwaurd, Medstead Grange, Quob, Sparsholt, Crofton Manor and East Soley is only 1.5 hours away.
Standard for us is 2.5-3 hours, and that's normally for BE. Don't tend to do much of the low key stuff locally, but even then it's usually an hour and a half to anything.
On whole I tend not to travel further than 90mins but this usually means I can do everything. I am lucky as M5 is only 3 mins away from me which makes life so much easier. Guess I am pretty spoilt but it means I can cope without an arena.
The ones that I tend to go to are around 1/2 hour to an hour. They tend to run so that there is at least 1 on every 2 weeks which really suits me. I will travel up to 2 hours to get to a really good venue with good facilities but as my mum comes with me and isnt horsey I tend to stay local.
My nearest venues are
Aldham Mill - about 1/2 hour
Cleavesty - about 3/4 hour
Manor Grange - about 1/2 hour (although dont like this venue)
BSJA
West Wilts - 20 mins
Rockhampton 50 mins
Wales & West 45 mins
The Hand 60mins
Summerhouse 60mins
Forest of Dean 60mins
Wick House 70 mins
Badgworth 70 mins
Dorset Showground 70 mins
Ponderosa 80 mins
Sunnybank 80 mins
Blewbury 90 mins
plus all the other one off shows you get
BE
West Wilts
Stonar 30 mins
Charlton Park 40 mins
Gatcombe 50 mins
Bath & West 50 mins
Longleat 50 mins
Belmont Park 60 mins
Stockland Lovell 90 mins
Pontispool 100 mins
I generally go about an hour and there is something on every weekend, there are also a lot of unaffliated places around as well. Furthest I've been competing would be Stafford, Newark & Notts, Builth Wells
Eventing- if a one day we try and only travel max 2hr30min if any longer we leave night before and stay somewhere.
When we travel locally its about 30mins to nearest indoor, Towerlands/Norton Heath 50mins so not too bad really!
There's a indoor arena about 10mins away, and theres always s.j + dressage on there. The nearest ODE is about 1 hour away but theres about 5 there a year. Lincoln B.E is about an 1hour away, and buckminster and oasby are about 1.5hours and burghley is 1.45 away .
Theres quite a few hunter trials around, but theres hardly any B.S.J.A
Our nearest venue was an hour away (in the lorry). I think the furthest we travelled was to Sheepgate (6 hours) but that was the U21 championships so was different.
West Wilts and places like that were at least 2 hours away.
you guys travel quite far for local comps. I travel 10 mins to my local ones and and hour to SIEC (Sydney International Equestrian Centre - where the olympics were held) for eventing. I have travelled 2.5 hours for a O.D.E spread out over two days before. But we stayed over night as my cross country was early on the second day.
hee hee - you know you've missed loads off the list but it would be unfair to go into any more detail. It does create the problem of deciding where to go, also makes it pretty shameful that I haven't been partying for bloody ages.

I know but I only have 1 horse and 1 me. Although this weekend its only The Hand on and a really bad schedule for me - last 2 classes, don't fancy being there at mid night. So its a fab weekend to go hunting
