Just wondered.... have you thought about adverts, what would you sell first - horse box, then horses, put the whole lot up on the same advert - sell tack seperatly etc

my mums in the middle of this atm :(

so far:

The house has been advertised (own land, stables, arena etc etc) its currently off the market thou... for now! i believe its going back on in the spring

the lorry has been adveritsed twice, once properly i mean with pics and things and this time its just up in a few local places.....

as for the horses well she only owns one of them so cant sell the other two!! :D but she feels guilty if she sells hers as he was brought back for her by my sister so im guessing my sister will just take him over eventually

its not a fun time thou! mainly because me and my sister are still interested in horses!!!!

if you have storage and don't need the money - don't sell your tack. Saddles maybe as they are pretty individual and bring in good cash, but the other stuff - bridles, headcollers, lunging eqt, grooming tools - keep it. I have had to give up a few times, and always come back and I always regretted what I sold (though it was for financial reasons so no choice). Even a grooming kit is expensive if starting from scratch again

I sold most of my tack more due to space issues, kept a spare bridle and my bits grooming kit etc.

Most of my stuff I have lent out to my friends also

I have kept hold of my horse trailer as I don't need the money.

I only plan on having this year out due to family commitments, so couldn't justify selling it (plus it was a present from my dad) :)

I gave up for 10 years, sold the lot except my tack, had kids & then got back into it. I would say horse are an addiction from which you can never be cured ;)

I found a home for my mare and put my boy out on loan at the other end of the country this time last year.

I had the ride of a wee mare (5yrs) that I could do what I wanted with to bring her on but I have to say I did give some serious consideration into giving up entirely as 2011 had been horrendous for me due to both people and situations with horses.

I have to say the relief of no monthly major horsey contributions and just being able to muck about and not worry did help but I honestly did think that I was giving it a rest for a while but the help of a great friend put the jazz back into it for me :D

Oh i don't know.... after having such a long time feeling so awful and still no leg improvement and now having the flu lergie.. when you start looking at what you have got and what you may be able to get for them is looking very very tempting...

horsebox 7.5 tonner
3 horses
50 + rugs - most brand new....

then the lack of monthly outgoings - i could retrie from work ..... and be a lady that lunches

I think you've had a really bad run GW- and now winter, mud, pricey, I bet loads of people are thinking of giving up too :(- but don't act hastily! :)

I 'gave up' when I lost my old girl, definitely wasn't going to have another ... lasted about 6 months before I realised I needed another, which took me 5 months to find and has now owned me for nearly a year.

I clearly went wrong in just chucking my horsey stuff in the shed instead of flogging it all, having to fork out for all the gear again might have put me off a bit longer!

No, don't be hasty CW (you don't really mean it) BUT I am telling you now if giving up the mare meant that I wouldn't have to work again she would be sold in a shot! I would then spend my days doing horsey volunteering stuff to he my fix :D

Hey wasn't it you saying not so long ago that you'd never get rid of one of yours?? Snap out of it girl :) Winter is probably dragging you down, combined with your long recovery. Give up if you really think that's what you want ... but ... don't do it till the spring is here and the nicer weather. You may feel very differently by then :)

Thanks SpringFeather - your right I would struggle to watch their little faces load onto a box and go off with someone else... :(

but I am becoming very depressed and really do need to snap out of this - its just such hard work with my leg and this flu has really knocked me around.

Sorry will stop feeling sorry for myself - promise - i just hoped i would wake up on the 1st and find my leg working and no more shivers and shakes !

crimbowitch - i broke my leg, very badly 6 years ago. I am permanently disabled in it. I suffered compartment syndrome, DVT and now has RSD and have to take many many different tablets including epilepsy medication. Now i have also developed degenerative disc disease in my SI joint. I was told i would lose my leg, never walk etc. It took me a year to walk. I lost so much muscle that died in my leg, riped tons of tendons etc, even now its ******ed. But i learnt to walk, i even ride now :)

Yes there are limitations of course, but dont give up hope yet :)

Thanks Secret Santa - I had a major accident - it took me 18 months to learn to walk again - but I only had the one horse then to look after... and we are being arm twisted to take on a little welshie - and i think this is just a step too far for me at the moment.

Hubby has said as much to the folk that want us to have him - but they have said its not a problem for them to keep him for another few months till i recover.... but he needs muzzling, feet doing and working already.... and i would never forgive myself if he got lami.

argh

Say no to them GW :o YOu don't need any more pressure being put on you ATM. Take time to get yourself over this gliche in your life, look after yourself, do some things you'd maybe not normally do, take a little trip somewhere or go out on a girls shopping lunch or maybe a spa day. It's amazing how these little things can help the mind see things in a different light.

If you cannot cope, say no. The stress will set back your healing as it is let alone the risk of being too much and injuring yourself more :(.

I worked with horses before my accident, i loved it. There is no way in hell i can do this anymore. It isnt practical or fair on an employer....during the winter the bone ache is excruitating and i am 8/10ths lame 24/7.

Dont allow anyone to emotionally blackmail you, you need to be focused on yourself and your own healing, otherwise you risk your future ability to do what you want.

Put your foot down! I've read some of your posts, your a hard cookie :). Just struggling atm with everything getting on top of you. Take a step back and a deep breath. Nothing is impossible, but you need to allow yourself time to heal, physically and mentally.

Sometimes some CBT is helpful when going through what you are, it helped me re-evaluate life around me. :)

^^ agreed.

I found Indian head massages really helped my nerve pain, and body massages helped me relax. Although i cannot have anyone touch my leg, it goes into spasm as its hypersensitive.

You need some 'me' time :)

I think about it often, but my tb is not rehomeable so I keep going. It's difficult when you have health problems and your horse has health and soundness issues and it's the middle of winter and money is tight.
