What's the furthest you would travel to a hunt and how far do you currently travel?

I would love to take my highland BUT it would be a 2 1/2 hour journey in the trailer :(

I also worry with the stories of how people have lost the hunt as it would be somewhere I don't know, so if I lost the hunt, I'd end up totally lost.

I have travelled over four hours but did stay overnight after hunting.
Yes, you can loose touch with the action but there is normally someone to point you in the right direction.

can you find somewhere to stable your horse for two nights (a hunt member might be able to put you both up) so that you could travel down friday evening, stay after hunting on saturday and travel home on sunday morning?

I would not travel more than 1hr for hunting, mainly because when I have finished the day both horsey and I are cold and tired, and want to get home quickly for a nice warm bath and supper!

I would second trying to stay overnight. Also if you have an emergency out on the hunting field, the further away you are from home, the more complicated things can get.

Re getting lost a discreetly used mobile phone is a god send....

I have a 6 day sub with a pack 1.5 hours away. It is plenty far enough. I have to make sure I have a can of coke or red bull in the car for the way home otherwise my eyelids start drooping! I wouldn't fancy a 2.5 hour drive home after a long day.

When I didn't know the country when I started hunting with a new pack I always made sure I had a photocopied bit of map in my pocket to help out. That was in the days before iphones and GPS though!

thanks. :) I'll get in touch when they put dates up and will see if some kind soul wouldn't mind my horse for a couple of nights :D

That was what I was thinking, but wasn't sure how far others travelled. this will be my first year with transport so trying to get clued up.
