How far to your horses?

Ours are 1.25 miles by road or 1.75 by footpath. Our land, but in some ways quite glad not to have them at home giving the house severe looks when the hay runs out....!

ETA I used to do 20-25 mins drive and that's the furthest I'd be prepared to I think. Twice a day visits add up.

20 minutes and that’s the maximum as i go twice a day, yes i could probably share one end of the day but i like seeing him both ends. It adds a lot on to each visit though

10-15mins (4miles), was previously 30mins (15miles) as no suitable yards closer and knew that was a short term rental before I could move to the area I wanted, which is where the yard is.

But there’s possibly a space coming available at a yard which is a 5min walk/30 second drive, which is pretty attractive tbh

Currently it’s a 20 min (13 miles) drive, and my boy is on full livery. The yard has good facilities and a lovely atmosphere, and the nearest similar yard would also be about the same distance away. Previously, he was on grass livery, with assistance on days when I couldn’t make it along, and that was a 35-40 min drive, depending on tractor/ tourist traffic. That was too far.

It would be different if he was on DIY, but being 20 mins away and on full livery makes it easy enough to pop along after work and ride or just hang out.

1 mile, so minutes. I could walk if I needed to, but never do. If I was going twice a day I'd say no more than 15 minutes would be doable. If I was on full livery, I'd probably go up to 25 minutes each way.

Currently 13 miles (25-30 mins) on DIY but the facilities are really, really worth it.
Have previously kept them at home but moved them further away for better hacking and grazing. Wouldn't go further than 30 mins away though on DIY, as a previous poster said the time twice a day adds up.
Furthest was a 76 mile (45m - 1.5hr!!) round trip on assisted DIY when I had moved 30 miles across the country and not found a suitable place to keep them yet.

Just under a mile for the total round trip by car, or about 750 yards if I walk across the field between our house and the farm. This will be a real issue if I ever decided to move: I'm really spoiled having the horse so close to home. Visiting friends over the weekend on other yards further away (3-5 miles) feels like a huge trek.

3 miles, 8 mins in the car from home, 12 miles, 16 mins to work!

I moved last year to a yard 8 miles home, 18 min drive, 16 miles, 30 min drive to the office. but the roads got really busy and quite often it could take 30 mins each way to and from home and the roads of the office were windy country lanes, used by big lorries and as soon as it got dark, it felt really dangerous, so I moved back to my old yard in December.

In 3 weeks I'm moving coblet from his DIY livery yard 6 mins away but where he's stabled so I always have to do tunout/In, stable, water, 3 x haynets etc, 2 x feeds etc to grass livery 15 mins away. I'm hoping the extra travel time will be offset by the fact that I'll only visit 1 x day and not have to do jobs but I guess only time will tell?

9.5 miles from home to yard which takes be 20 minutes on average. But the yard is only 2.5 miles ad a 5 minute drive from my workplace and on my route there anyway so I am passing every day Mon-Fri anyway and often pop along on my lunch hour to catch up on chores which is handy.

25-30 minutes, but it’s a nice drive with not much traffic and beautiful views. I might move closer in about a year - then it will be less than 10 minutes.

I used to have mine 9 miles away - which was either 30 minutes or well over an hour depending on commuter traffic and how stuffed up the M25 was that day. Now it's half that, the route is generally faster/clearer and I can cycle it in summer. Well, aspirationally I can. Somehow my feet plod car-wards each time.

Furthest was 8.9 miles from home or 18.4 miles from work, it worked out roughly the same drive time of 25 minutes due to one route being country lanes and the other being Motorway/Dual Carriage Way. Cost me so much in fuel, didn't last long there. Second furthest was 6 miles, about 20 minute drive and hilly so it did munch fuel too, but it was worth it due to being on the edge of a big forestry to ride in.

Closest was 0.5 miles, 2 mins in the car or about a 15 minute walk due to it all being uphill. I remember lugging water up there on foot during the beast from the east, whilst suffering from a chest infection and a rolled ankle, thought I was going to expire 🤣 Private yard I rented with a friend, sadly sold for housing.

Now 1.6 miles, 5 minutes in the car, and only one steep hill to drive up each way, so doesn't use much fuel. Very hilly around here lol

4 miles and 10-15 minutes usually but it's also in the direction of the motorway and a big retail park so if you time it wrong it can take another 15 minutes. Until 18 months ago it was 2 miles and 6-7 minutes but our yard was on the market so we moved. Now I have to drive past the old place to get to the new one and the extra distance is where the traffic can be so those extra miles on those days are very frustrating!

12.2 miles and 15 to 20 mins for me on diy but only go once a day as they live out and have people up all times of day to check o them.

Been as far as a 35 mins journey and that was too much.
