How far would you hack to a show/dressage/showjumping event?
I have Port Royal EC about 7 miles from me, although most is on lanes and through villages, about 4miles might have to be done on a main 60mph road, so am looking for ways around that, but how far would you hack?

Up to about 10 miles, but wouldn't go on a main road though, so some are closer but as we go a wiggly route actually are about 10 miles.

Where abouts are you chickeninabun? Not that far from me I would guess (Ferrybridge area)

Can't rememeber exactly, and obviously depends on speed, but trotting I think it took as around 1.5 hours... We used to leave first thing though, and stay the whole day so didn't bother timing it.

I hack 4.5 miles to dressage comps - I have a slow walking ponio so it takes 1.5 hours to get there and about 1 hour to get home (silly lad walks faster to get home)

When I lived in Yorkshire I would think nothing of hacking 10 miles to a competition.

I was thinking of doing this... http://www.portroyaleec.co.uk/unafil_sj%20Family%20fun%20day.htm

Do you think I'll get laughed at by all the kids if I turn up?! I'm a nearly 30yo, married lady with two children and a 14.3hh hairy beast who can ride a 20m circle about as well as a train (the horse not me!) but it'd give my schooling sessions something to aim for. Thinking of doing the Clear Round, possibly the 60cm and possibly Hansome Horse, Hairy Beast and maybe even riding club horse if all is going well!!
