How far would you hack

that would depend on how fit my horse was and how much riding I was going to do once there. If it was a long distance fun ride I probably wouldn't hack very far at all, but it depends on the horse. We have an equestrian centre round the corner to us, a 10 minute walk, and i'd hack there for anything ;)

Depends how fit my horse is ;) In the past I've hacked about 15ish miles to do a few sj classes, or once I hacked about 10 miles to do a 12 mile fun ride.

If you have the time, the inclination and the fitness, who knows :D

The longest I've hacked to a fun ride (a 15-miler) was 8 miles, so be the end of the day I'd done 31 miles.

When I hunted, 7 miles to the meet was the absolute max as you could easily do 25-30 miles during the day.

Not sure about showing. Others who di it will tell you. But would a longish hack take the 'showing edge', for want of a better word, off your horse? Presumably they need to look as sparky as possible?

Will be interested to see the answers!

Depends how fit the horse is & what I planned to do there. Our local shows range between 2 & 6 miles away & we always hack. I've written off the nearest place doing indoor sj to hack as its either through a town centre on a sat or down a mway or miles round. Nearest pony club rallies would be either 12 miles or 6/7 using the town centre ring road at rush hour, which would make me hated locally. But if I don't have transport still when daughters 11/12 & she wants to go I would be happy with the long route.
Although it does annoy me that another local girl hacks to the show 6miles away even though her horse is ridden rarely the rest of the time & is knackered half way there.

if I wanted him to be sensible when I got there then the longer the better to wear him out ;) Would happily do 8 to 10 miles provided I knew the way and there would be somewhere to give him a rest and a spruce up when I got there.

I posted about this a while ago as was thinking of hacking 6 miles or so to pop over a tiny xc course, but ended up going in the lorry.

After doing a 9 mile hack this weekend I shall be revising my thoughts, he was still up for more when we finished, but I was knackered and it took us nearly 3 hours :o

Furthest I think I would do is a couple of miles.

:)
