Your mare looks similar to my boy - he was just the same when I got him - he'd see water (even a puddle) from 100yds away and refuse to go any closer! The first time I got him in, it was through a ford and all his friends went through - he took a massive leap into the water and out again lol! He's getting better though. I hope your mare overcomes her fear

Hmm, never seen water as a major problem altthough these days prefer to trot/walk through it as opposed to when i was a fearless tennager out of control on a pony who just launched into water!

My sister's horse really didn't want to go through water on courses although eventually went through our nearby ford and stream after a few attempets. Still on a course was a problem and resulted in a couple of eliminations so sister took him with a friend (and the aid of a lunge whip) and 'persuaded' him in at a local x-country open day. The whip never touched him i think just the sight of it was enough, Now he's fab in water and will jump in and out and over fences in the middle! Perseverance wins in the end.

I thought that mine would go straight through and not have any problems, seeing as though he had competed up to 120km in endurance and should have been used to it....but no when i first asked him to go through he reared up and spun around, trying to get his own way, but slowly we worked and now he will walk, trot, canter through any large stretch of water (near us there is a 'stream' that fills with water during the winter but is bone dry in the summer, and it's about 2ft deep, he splashes through it stamps his feet, really enjoys himself...etc!!) BUT i have to watch out for puddles, he will jump them, go round them, do anything not to go through them!!

have just broken in my anglo arab mare and she's only been through water 3 times now, but a river not x country type water, and she's leading the way through, im really pleased with her
