I have been at my current yard for 2 years now. It is a private yard. My YO keeps a few polo ponies which live out but rents the rest of his grazing and stables out.

I have 2 horses there, DIY. They have a 2 acre paddock each which is topped and managed regularly. A stable each which is maintained willingly if any repairs etc are needed and a huge tack room and storage area for all my hay and bedding which is also maintained regularly.

My mare is due home after her KS op next week. He has let me fence off the grassy area outside the stables for her restricted turnout. He even moved a load of rubbish so it wouldn't be in her way and he has just put a load of chippings down in the field gateways ( at my request) to ease the mud situation when the weather turns.

I have had many years of being at crappy livery yards with money grabbing YO's who's only interest is how many horses they can squeeze in and pay day each month. So it is very refreshing and comforting to be able to keep my horses as I wish with no interference from the YO unless it is asked for. :-)
 
Your YO sounds great.
I never see my current YO as the stables and land are not part of his 'estate', he lives in a nearby village and the yard stands alone. Me and the OH lady have been doing all maintenance for the summer. But I have been told he will be doing some things very soon
 
Just moved to a new yard (new to us). There's only our horses on it and there won't be any more - five acres, three of our neds on it :D.

So far the YO seems lovely :D. I have learnt to reserve judgement, but am happy so far (we have a competition to see who does the poo picking lol).
 
Here we go, YO bashing time!

Well, I think I am fairly good as I work my backside off 24/7/365 to keep my livery horses happy and their owners too, chase the staff to do the same, try to keep everyone happy and the facilities up to scratch and prices down all whilst running a E.C that costs a small fortune to operate. We make bugger all profit off livery and whilst some customers show their thanks with lovely comments, many just waltz in and out like they own the place and say nothing! Of course they pay their way, but a nice word goes miles further!

If you like/love your YO/YM please make sure you tell them you are grateful.

Arghh, why does the edit function stop so quickly. Realised i made a typo, OH was meant to be other! lol

I was not bashing my YO by any means, just incase you thought I was, its just a very basic little yard, which kind of runs itself
 
No YO bashing from me!

My YO's are fantastic, yard is fully maintained and is being constantly improved (round pens are being roofed this month) all round pens, schools and sand paddocks are leveled daily.

Horses are on Assisted DIY they turn out, bring in and do all feeds, we muck out and prepare hay buckets.

Last Tuesday I had to cancel a lesson as I had to work late and OH had to go and muck out horse,,,,on Wednesday I got a text "stal done and horse has been worked, treat yourself to a night off and enjoy"

Add to the fact that Farrier, Vet etc YO is always present so no need for time off unless you want to be there.

Love my yard and love my YO's
 
I'd only been at my new yard for a week, then my horse came down with laminitis. He was on box rest and he put nets in twice a day, and feeds free of charge. My horse also has uevitis and he puts drops in for me also for free. He has done me a small paddock, keeps an eye on him and checks his eye daily. Nothing is too much trouble. I've only been there 3 months and i love it.

My YO is lovely but shall we say not keen on the actually yard itself! it's no where near TB proof enough for my liking and will be moving very shortly, i hope :D
However, my new to be YO is lovely and the yard is great too
:D
 
My YO is excellent - horses are happy and content the yard us well managed and a lovely place xx p.s. we all make sure we tell her! x
 
My YO owner is brilliant. I don't see them for years on end, I get to do all my repairs and buy all new fencing for the yard and I am even lucky enough to be able to pay them £280 a month for the privilage!

Saying that at least they don't get in the way and my sister and I love our place!
 
She is fantastic and should she venture on to the forums and read this .....THANK YOU :D

Nothing is too much to ask and when the horses are in her care she treats them amazingly :D She listens to requests and acts upon them and doesn't flip out at the resident hypochondriact horse owner i.e *ME* :p

The yard is always immaculate and it has the best atmosphere of any yard I have been on :D
 
I love my YO :-)

The yard has got great facilities and she manages it very well - but the biggest thing for me is that I trust her and don't feel like I need to be at the yard every five seconds checking that things have been done. The main groom there is also great.

Stable management is of a very high standard as is pasture management. Creams/lotions/potions etc all put on as requested and the whole place runs like clockwork. She will use her own judgement re rugs etc if I haven't left any specific asks - she has a lot of experience and is always happy to help if you want a bit of advice on something and she's a really nice person. Doesn't suffer fools gladly but that's my kind of person!

She really has the ability to get under the skin of each horse there though and knows all their foibles, how best to handle them, who will be good turned out with who etc. My boy can be a bit sensitive and a bit of a 'princess' at time but she got his number within a week of us being there! She really does treat each horse as an individual and caters to their individual needs and its this individual approach and high quality care that I really like and I hope I never have to move!
 
My YO (and YM) is fab.

She let me loan her daughters pony when I was 11 (my first pony), she gave me my first job, She found our first horse for us, She let me ride dozens of other horses/ponies for her free of charge over the years, She is supportive and always on hand if you need har for something, and if she's not at home she's at the end of her phone, She keeps an eye out for all the horses at the yard, even those on DIY. And to top it off she puts up with Hercs quirks (including his refusal to be caught by her 99% of the time)

I owe her alot, and do everything I can to help them both out.
 
Not bad actually.

Boarders get the best fields.
Turn out is carefully matched and monitored.
Medications/blankets/holding for Farrier/Vet all inclusive and no problem.
Feed when owners can't get up - no charge.
Daily checks.
YO knows the horses intimately, communicates with owners.
Little things like haynets always refilled in tie up areas every day.
No rules on open hours, trails through forest all freshly cut and maintained.
Never in your face but near by if needed.
 
My YO is great. It is a part or full livery yard only and she cares for the horses as if they are her own. She doesn't interfere but is more than willing to help/advise if asked.

The facilities/fencing etc are well maintained and the whole place is spotless.
 
yep mine are great too - never interfere but always ready to help and offer advice if asked, really care for the horses - i would never move!
 
Our YO is quite hands off which is good in some respects, ie, relaxed and not too many rules and the yard is self-running effectively but then sometimes she doesn't see the things going on or developing between liveries or with horses that might be brewing. Problems crop up when people then just go and do their own thing and take it to the extreme and upset other liveries. Then she gets mad..I think she hates having to wade in like that but everyone then knows the score! She is approachable and while it's not the tidiest or well maintained of yards, for the money it's not bad and anything I've asked to be repaired has been. The only other problem we have is with horses that might need restricted turnout because there isn't really an option for that but that's not her fault just the set up of the yard/turnout. My main frustrations are with some of the other liveries!

Oooh another person with a horse that has uveitus! Your YO sounds similar to mine :)

Mine is brilliant. There is no school and only converted field shelters for emergency stables but she is so caring. Its mostly retired horses (full grass livery) so one feed a day in summer and 2 in winter, organising the farrier and dentist but the rest is up to the owner. When Pharaoh has a flare up she happily gives him his feed with his drugs in so we arent going back and forth to the yard all day, puts his mask on when he takes it off, takes his rugs off if i've been down in the rain and its sunny when she gets there - all for no extra charge :) Many of the owners don't come up often for whatever reason and she goes out of her way to look after the horses in her care (about 40 or more of them!). I'm currently away in devon and its lovley knowing that he is being looked after properly, getting all his meds and that she will be checking his eye daily and if she has to lead him it will be in a bridle (have met several people that think they know best and it always ends badly). It is also nice coming down to a quiet yard where there is now nutty person and things going missing all the time!!! I could say so much more but it will bore you all I expect :p

Having known my YO for 5 years as an instructor at an old yard, I have no complaints. Horses are all out in massive fields with plenty of room to roam around, she will help if asked but would never give unwanted opinions or help and she is an instructor so nice to have that on my doorstep as well as my other RI who comes weekly. Nothing is too much trouble for her and shes very easy going, makes tea in the tack room and makes sure there is always loo roll in the toilet :D And happy to hack out with her liveries and chat.

Plus she grows her own haylage and sells shavings at a very reasonable price which will save me a lot of driving around for them in the winter :D Cant really ask for more
 
Oh hilarious!

I'm on DIY (not half!) The YO bales his own hay/straw and delivers it to individual sections once you've cried hysterically because he hasn't delivered for over a week and you've had to borrow left right and centre.

The surface has been down for over 15 years and has to hand watered as the sprinklers broke years ago and were never fixed.

If there's a hole in the stable roof, put your water bucket underneath.

The fields are a sea of mud in the winter and you need waders to get through the gates.

If you like rats, it's the ideal yard to look at lots of them.

Basically, if you want anything done, do it yourself!

I adore my yard (well, the people on it and the relaxed manner in which we can all do precisely what we want) but sometimes, I yearn for a well-run yard with a YM, full-time grooms and a YO who gives a damn and would sort out issues between liveries.

Sorry, GG Rider, your yard and way of working sounds amazing!

YO is just fab. Always there for advice, fantastic lessons and is a great laugh. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. I have been there for about a year and I just love it. Everyone is so nice and it's a good laugh. The YO often helps out if I am stuck at work and doesn't demand extra money although I usually put a bit extra in the livery cheque.

She is a complete mare, wanted to charge me to borrow the tractor, when my mare broke her leg and the crem people could not get her out the field, rang to sat sorry about my mare needing PTS and she will be sending me a bill for the use of the tractor, this was 2 mins after pearl was pts and i was still in shock/hysterical.
Cant wait to find a new yard

Im always shocked at how insensitive and crass people can be.

No YO bashing from me. Mine is great, a real horse lover who treats mine the same as hers. No issues here, very happy and intend to keep my two there for the rest of their lives *touch wood*

I would have parked the tractor through her lounge wall and claimed diminished responsibility bloody woman.
 
Mine is lovely to your face but I right cow behind your back.

Very jelous lady who slags off people who do well with their horses.

But - excellent facilities so I just don't give her any amunition to slag me off to other liveries
 
My YO is amazing she can never do enough for us.
She puts ourhorses out in the mornings, brings them in at night.
Brings our horses in for the farrier, dentist etc.
Recently when I lostCharlie she stayed with me, arranged for the lorry etc

She helped with the birth of Bailey, taught me horse whispering takes us to shows etc.

She never expects anything extra, tries to keep the livery to a minimum, and takes us to any shows without asking for cash.

The stables arebasic but it is a fab atmosphere and the horses are so well looked after, she treats them all likeher own.

Last week when Bailey severed an artery she was down at the yard in 5 mins and stayed to help even though she hadnt had her tea extra.

I got her a voucher after the birth and Charlie being pts and always make sure I get her a lovely Xmas present to make sure she knows she is appreciated.

Couldnt be without her.
