Mine has become incredibly hairy over the last couple of weeks. She is still out at night without a rug and unclipped. I'm sure this is the hairiest she's ever been so early in the autumn. Is anyone else finding this? Could this be a sign of a hard winter to come?:(

Mine is extremly hairy, we measured it for a laugh and its about 2 inches long!
This is with a 200g rug on and stabled at night!! Clipping is going to be fun :)

Toffee is a mammoth havent clipped her for three years as she hasnt been in much work but she has come back dripping (spooky pony + unfit) only going to take her neck and belly off though. Samba has hardly any coat at all and shes part welsh!!!!

About 2 weeks ago I lost my horse, and a yak appeared in her place. Their markings are very similar though.....

:P

The babies are woolly, the mini is woolly, two of the ancients are woolly, all the others (Paints and QH's) are still remarkably unfluffy. It hasn't been cold at all yet though. Tee shirt weather today, lovely.

The full TB is ridiculously wooly already, i dread to think of how she will look come winter! I thought she was hairy last winter but she's much worse this year. She's not in work though and is stabled at night so will stay unclipped and unrugged whilst out for now. She does have a fleece on whilst stabled at night though as our stables are quite cold and airy. The TBx doesnt have much of a coat so far and is rugged now unless warm, only a rain sheet though and mostly just to keep her dry so i can ride. I'm trying to avoid clipping her this winter as she's not long been backed and isn't doing loads of work yet but we shall have to see how it goes. There's definitley a coat coming though as she is very light during the summer and there are definitely more dark patches appearing (she's appaloosa)

Ridiculously so, I think that this year is the earliest I've ever had to clip (right at the beginning of Sept!) And already had to do a second one!

As of this afternoon, not at all, Mind you I've never known my clippers struggle before and they did on his quarters... I'm going to have to clip again in a week or two to even the clip up a bit -- looks like I did it with a knife and fork at the mo... and got a competition in 2 weeks -- Ho Hum.

Not very hairy at all for a highland! He's normally a fair bit fluffier by now and he's out unrugged when normally he's rugged at this time of year although only in a boett.

He did come back extremely sweaty tonight though after jogging most of the 8miles of our hack  and he never sweats normally!

my warmblood isn't that hairy really. he's been rugged for about a month or so, but only a lightweight (or MW a week or so ago when it was really cold). Going to leave him out till November at least and then clip and bring him in at night.

was tempted to clip today when he was sweating as soon as he looked at the saddle but really want to leave it till he's coming in at night.

All still out, unrugged,d all exceptionally hairy. Even my cob, who has a surprisingly fine coat, more like a TB, is looking really hairy and rough. Thickest coat I've ever seen her with. Couple that with all the other signs - fantastic berries, fantastic leaf colour - wonder what we're going to get?
