Good point, ask yourself where are all the good old fashioned british NH bred stallions ?, proper big ones with proper bone, and when did you last see a really nice roomy, deep bodied british mare that would breed your true 17h plus middleweight show horse.

Have a look at SHGB site, they have a list of approved stallions/breeders.

Good luck, I hope you find him and he's british.

I found a beautiful 16.1hh 3yo gelding in my field today. Not too much of a surprise as he's mine... but he was a grotty little 15hh 20 month old unhandled colt when I bought him, so its a pleasant surprise he has turned out so well!

Is she looking for a particular breed? Maybe contact studs directly or any relevant breed society for less well know/advertised studs who may have something in the right age bracket?

I've got a 3 yr old QH (western but Welsh bred) in my field... It takes a practised (daft mum) eye to spot any beauty under all the mud atm... :D

There's one up here in central scotland: I was interested but he's WAY outside my budget! But otherwise is seems to be all 2yrs olds for sale at the moment.

I had the same problem a while ago, even posted on here in desperation!

I found an absolute beauty and bought them 3 weeks ago :)
There are rising 3 year olds out there, but I think most are holding off till the end of the month.
I'd put a wanted add out, those thinking of selling but waiting till april willl get in contact :D

I've got one in the field would probably suit - by RID out of a big TB x mare - he should make 17hh. I normally find very little interest when I advertise unbacked 3 year olds, so I wait until they are backed before trying to sell them (and then they tend to go like hot cakes!)

I thought I had already replied to this. Look on the Cleveland Bay Horse Society website or post wanted.

Geldings are easier to find than mares as we like to keep our mares for breeding. Pure or part bred you will certainly find a middleweight hunter type.

You could also contact some of the breeders listed. I know two who never advertise their horses.

Thanks everyone.....we have already covered most angles suggested. English/Irish preferred....no Cleveland and although a a small percentage of foreign blood is ok ...not too much. Min 16.2 now to mature light or middle with great limbs and plenty of presence. To be fair I have 3 3 yr old boys here, all 3 are extremely smart but one is too continental, one coloured and one middleweight stamp but only going to make lightweight height! So I am very clear in what my friend wants....we just cannot find him!
