Vulcanite D-ringed snaffle?? Is that what it is? I can't see what's in the middle very well, but if it's just a link, then I'd say it's pretty mild. :O)

How harsh it is for a particular horse will depend on said horse's mouth conformation. If the horse has a small mouth and fleshy tongue - quite harsh as it is bulky; if the horse has low palate - quite harsh as it is single jointed, if it has delicate bars - again, quite harsh because of the nut-cracker action.

D-rings are often used on western horses the way English riders use full cheek snaffles to aid with turning. I don't think you see them so much over here though.
Vulcanite is warmer and a bit softer than metal so often used with youngsters or horses with sensitive mouths.
However, it has only a single joint. This means it is going to fold in the horse's mouth, dig into the roof of the mouth and pinch his tongue. Some horses seem to go ok in this type of bit but in my opinion if you have a single jointed snaffle and your horse is opening his mouth you should be looking at different bits rather than closing his mouth with a noseband.

I so wish there would be a 'like' option on this forum..as I completely agree. It appears mild but my personal view is that they are very bulky.

As others have said, rough hands can make the gentlest bit harsh and gentle hands can make the harshest bit kind.

Thanks everyone! She goes well in it but I just wanted to know if its mild cause that kind of gives me an idea of how hard or soft her mouth is because I may be looking to change bits, as she keeps chewing the rubber off! Thanks so much!
