Ouchie.

My previous tb managed a similar wound on the side of his cheek that was so and sharp my vet said if he hadn't been stabled at the time he'd have wondered if he'd been attacked. We did search the stable thoroughly for edges.

One theory was a risen clench if he'd been scratching the side of his head with his hoof but who knows.

Hmmm that's something sharp. Any nasty blackthorn? Although my big mare managed to find an old strand of barbed wire to slice her leg on - deep, deep in a hedgerow

My previous avatar pony sliced her head on a safety bulkhead light fitting when she was quite young. In her later years she sliced from her breast down her forearm 14 stitches on a small piece of wire in the hedge.
Sadly somehow if it can be done, somehow they will
Hope it heals fast and well

Yeah I've inspected the whole fence line, but couldn't find anything of suspicion. It's electric fence all the way around, no hedges, no trees 🤷‍♀️

I had a near identical one, saw it happen and it was a kick.. a nail pulled the sharper line and my best guess is the round edge of shoe scrapped the bigger bit off. if its any consolation, it healed super fast and only left a tiny scar!
yeah I think you might be right - the field has been fully inspected for other stuff and I think it must be another horses foot...

I would say a sharp shoe nail from a kick as well, my mare was kicked on the thigh by another horse while we were hacking and it was a long slice like that caused by the shoe somehow.

We had a gelding with very similar straight line injury (2 lines running parallel) but on his shoulder. Don't know how it happened but assumed it was from where they wrap fence wire back and uou have a little end, we have electric wire over the top line of fence but I suppose he could still have touched resr of fence. He had to have drains put into his wounds but actually seem to have healed very well, will be able to see more when his summer coat comes through. Hope your boy feels better soon x

Faces tend to heal very well and quickly. hopefully in a few weeks you'll hardly notice. My old lad used to regularly scrape and cut his face at certain times of the year, violently rubbing on stuff because he was itchy.
