Following on from the how many rugs thread, if you own so many, how much does it cost you to get them all cleaned?

I've decided only Duos' from now on as I can swop and wash in my machine at home, which saves a small fortune.

Don't send mine in anymore - I can put the money to better use! On sunny summer days (hmmm!!) I get the hose out, lay them out and scrub inside and out, hard wrk but with 7 rugs to do saves a fortune! I have never had problems with them leaking either despite only using a spray on reproofer.

About 3.80 :) I buy a can of re-waterproofer. Hang turnouts on the gate, hose and fairy liquid them clean and then re-spray! My pony has far far too many rugs to be taking them to be washed! The worst of the stable rugs which don't fit In the machine at home get taken. But other than that I do it myself.

Not much. Brush off worst. Stick in an empty feed bin & leave to soak in smart price washing powder overnight. Remove, hose & scrub with cheap washing up liquid. Reproof turnouts with tent reproofer.

You are supposed to clean them?

I hose off the spider webs and patch up the rips and that's it. One advantage of having cold winters and sandy soil - clean blankets.

Practically nothing :D I bought myself a lovely big old machine and do them myself. I couldn't do it any other way, I'm a washing fanatic! Cotton rugs and hoods get washed weekly, same with saddle blankets. Boots get chucked in when they need it too. All the competition gear is washed the day after and re-packed into the truck ready for the next event :)

I also have a washer, smallish horses and even for the big one I don't use heavy rugs, but unlined turnouts and lightweight under rugs/layering. So just the cost of powder and fabric softener. Don't need the rugs to be downpour proof as they don't go out in heavy rain in winter.

9 rugs bill at £78.oo washed reproofed 1 repair 5 turnout 4 stable or liners ,

Lost count of the number of washing machines I have wrecked just with numnahs. oh doesnt like the hairs on his boxers so happy with rug bills awe shame

using washing powder will kill turnouts, it breaks down the water repelant coating on the inside of the outer material. not reccomened by rug manufacturers.
