Our yard has equine flu.

The ponies are all close to recovery and I haven't really had much contact with the sick ones anyway, but I just wondered how it's passed on, as I'm planning to visit a friend's pony on Saturday. Would I be putting the horses at her yard in danger?

Sorry for ignorant question.

It's passed on by droplet infection - ie doesnt need actual contact. It can also be transmitted via fomites eg brushes, sponges, clothing. I would tend not to go straight from one yard to the other just to be safe. If you have a shower and put on clean clothes before visiting your friends horse you'll be fine
