We've had rain every day for the past 10 days, and according to BBC weather we're entering 72 hours of none stop showers :( most of our paddocks are waterlogged, ponies are beginning to churn them due to how wet they are, ponies are soggy and miserable, open show and dressage have been cancelled, we're all miserable!

I'm considering stabling Bailey overnight just to get him out of the rain for a while and give the ground a rest, is anyone else bringing in at night for this reason?

My only problem is I'm not sure if the lady I share my field with will stable her pony overnight with Bailey, not too sure how he'll react to being in by himself!

How is everyone else coping with this horrid weather? :(

Iv just moved to a new field last week, with a shelter, and the first week has been awful!!!!!
Luckily my mare and her old companion dont churn it up too much but its very wet.
If it doesnt dry up soon Ill have to let them have a bit more space as their paddock will get too wet and start to get muddy :(
Big country show cancelled this weekend :( Go away rainnnnnnnnnnnnn

my two are beginning to absolutelly trash their field, they have almost run out of grass and they are both rather miserable in the rain, had to change my 2 year olds rug from a light medium to a medium as she was all tucked up and depressed, was thinking of bringing them in but im running low on hay and havent got any transport to pick it up s they will just have to be rugged and deal with it, hope it gets sunny soon so we get some grass!

It's awful isn't it :(

I got a new mare just over a week ago, and already my paddock is getting churned up and muddy. It was in great condition too, as my shetland has restricted grazing so is in most of the time (and muzzled when out). Now it's already nearly bare, waterlogged, and muddy.

I've put them both in today because of the downpours here, but they share a stable. The problem is that then I have to put loads of hay in to stop the little one being bullied, but then he eats too much and is putting weight on - not good as he has cushings and prone to lami.

So, soon, whether the rain stops or not, my mare is going to have to stay out with her rain sheet on. Or i'm going to have to find a way of partitioning the stable up.

And then the blummin sun comes out, and she boils for an hour before it chucks it down again :(

It's the pits isn't it!! I know we are desparate for rain, but it would be lovely to get a break even just for a few days. It's quite cold hear too so not really benefitting the grass growth....grrr! Our fields have never looked worse and the horses are just trashing them, but they have to go out at some time, so just have to take it on the chin.

To save the fields, last week we decided to put them back into the 'winter' routine ie coming in at night, which is very annoying as really didn't want to have to open another large bale of haylage, and also costing in bedding too. I had them all in last night and this morning, and am just off to turn them out for a few hrs now it seems a bit drier.

Like you rain has stopped play for all comps over the last couple of weeks, but have managed to book into a 1 day jumping clinic on Sat on all weather surface, so just praying it goes ahead.

Metcheck is forecasting that it will be dry and sunny by next Tues, so keeping fingers crossed!

It's not good :-(

I had two ducks in the paddock this morning.............

Sun is trying to come out at the moment so will take this opportunity to walk the dog & do the mucking out.

Roll on summer :-)

I have brought my two in today as their paddock is waterlogged, muddy and has no grass. Its starting to look a little bit brighter now so hopefully they can go back out after I finish work this evening.

This weather is really getting me down due to a contractor trashing my walkway to my fields I cant even get down to sort them out as he's collapsed a drain my winter fields are trashed and I have no where else to put myself or my friends young horses as they will get trashed in no time at all with this bloody rain. Im so fed up my horses are usually out 1st April for summer but this is getting me really down now :(

Our yard is a muddy mess again, the fields are beginning to resemble bogs and we are still having to bring in at night.
My mini pony who wintered out without a rug is now sporting a lovley med weight turnout because otherwise he'd be constantly wet and cold.
Beginning to think that we had our summer a couple of weeks ago whilst I was on holiday with my family and this is how I'm paying for it.

We are still on the winter system, not been able to open the summer paddocks yet so the horses are all still living in and getting about 3 hours turnout in the winter trash paddocks.

They are so churned up but there is nothing to be done, just waiting for this rian to stop and for the ground to dry up.

Long wait .....

Mines stabled on a night anyway but he is stood miserable at the gate even earlier now just to get out of his lake!

He does have 8 new fieldmates now though as the ducks have moved in :D

Seriously getting fed up of it now though, its not looking likely that the horses will be out for good anytime soon & I've just had to upset a load of kids & cancelled this weeks pc rally :(

I am playing musical stables! Mare who foaled last week is in the biggest but the stable next to her is only separated by chest height wall and she wont stand anyone next to her! Field resembles a paddy field and I dont want it trashed as it has to do them until october so they are yarded with make shift electric fence! 2 have the "garage" to go in and 3 are in stables and then when the music stops it will be all change again so they can stretch their legs!!!
Trying to decide whether I dare keep them like this overnight or if the yarded ones will do an escape?

Glad its not just me with swamps for fields :( nothing's draining it's just turning into a swimming pool, think Bails is going to come in tonight and maybe tomorrow night to give him a chance to dry off and stop churning up the field! Its very annoying as to try and stop one area from becoming a bog we're switching fields every few days when we should really be resting three out of the four :( bloody english weather :(

The fen soil isnt doing that bad considering the ammount of rain we have had and there is good grass coverage, to much grass if any thing . It does have massive drainage dykes all round it though so that should be helping. Pony is still living out 24/7 rugged and with access to shelter, his summer coat is pathetic and doesnt seem to be making much progress now the weather has changed. Its more annoying because I want to book a lesson but dont want to catch the rain as all I will get is sideways piaffe followed by extended canter.

I had a lesson indoors last wed then she had turs and fri off as it pee`d down and we dont have an arena at home at all, rode out sat and got soaked, rode sunday and got soaked and she gallops about in the wind and rain so has had 4 different shoes off in the past 2 weeks so thats also been a pain. we have had 85 mm of rain the the past 2.5 weeks and we are in Norfolk.

Field is wet with alot of standing water on it, plus a big lake!! Not really muddy though. Horses have come in today, mainly as the big lad was shaking this morning. Going to decide later if they're going back out or stopping in xx

Moved to a new field 3 weeks ago, 24/7 turnout no field shelter! It's been awful and the back half of their field where they are is under about a foot of water! They are running about and it resembles a swamp :-( Cold, wet and miserable horses (both tb) but not much I can do but hope it eases soon!!

2 of my 3 only needed rugs on for a couple of weeks during the winter as it was so mild and dry then. On Monday they got cold from the rain even though they have 24/7 access to their field shelters. I have rugged them today due to the forecast. The fields now have ponds and streams and are incredibly wet just so glad not on clay.

Mine are back to their winter routine again too - with rugs to match! Another big bale haylage on order which I was hoping to avoid. Had to leave them in this morning as paddocks like a paddy field. Just got back in from turning them out as rain seems to have stopped. This sucks!

I have also gone back to my winter routine, ponies have been put back into their winter field and coming back in at night, although today i have left them in for the day to give them a rest from the constant downpours, i wish the rain would stop now fields are trashed and I have soggy muddy miserable ponies come back sunshine please.

Mine are back on their winter routine with medium weight rugs and 3 - 4 hours turnout in the sand manege. They have been in this routine again for almost 3 weeks now, after spending most of March in the summer paddocks.

Merry Crisis I am so jealous! Have decided to give in to Bailey and bring him in tonight, hopefully he'll have a happier face in the morning! He was very grumpy and miserable this morning because he was wet! But the silly horse had jumped out of his paddock onto the track, where there is no water, no haynet and no shelter so it serves him right for playing showjumping during the night!

Go away rain :(

Its dry up here! Not often I can say that, grass growing sun is out. :D

I can go right off some people! :p

Big Fuzzy is still locked in on box rest, so her paddocks not being trashed (tho she is going a bit stir crazy this week  )
Tiny Fuzzy was fine when I last saw her at 6, hoping she hasn't hidden in a puddle somewhere in her paddock... :D

I put HW full neck on lovely livery's horse this morning & he's out still, but she is bringing him in tonight as paddock getting trashed & he/it needs a break from each other.
Him being in, means Tiny Fuzzy can have use of a field shelter tonight if she wishes :)

Been sitting here at work listening to the thunder - and watching the heavy rain, tho its just stopped 2 mins ago! Actually glad I no longer run a busy yard these days :o

just come back from doing a lunchtime check on mine (was luckily at client round corner) as my mare was shivering this morning - has large field shelter but had decided to stay out in rain so had to put waffle rug underneath turnout to get wet off and dry her out - went back at lunchtime to remove waffle but she was lovely and dry and warm underneath so left her as she is. They are both shut in with access to arena/yard and shelter and will stay that way until my lakes dissapear from field. No ducks yet but think the killer whales are keeping them away !

Have to say it is all my fault, planted 600 hedge plants end of march and did many a rain dance as I was having to water them with hosepipe (no joke - 400m hosepipe!) since I did the dance it hasnt stopped or so it seems (although did manage lovely hack last night when there was a break in the weather !)
