Has she dropped away behind the withers/back area recently? If so, it is probably her ageing a little. Has she been in regular work? if not, it may be that correct work will improve it. Having said that, she looks super and has a fabulous sheen on her coat!
I think she looks brilliant! Very shiny! As you said - just needs a little bit more muscle on the topline. But for her age looks fab, I wouldn't have been able to tell if she was 16 or 10! xx
Mabel: She is in constant work, but I dont really work her as hard as I should because within half an hour schooling I've normally run out of exercises to do lol.
This week I've started trying to do more with her though.
get her out for long hacks and enjoy the lovely evening - a two hour hack wouldnt hurt her at all if your struggeling in the school with what to do - you can school on a hack if you really need to
she looks really well, such a pretty girl. If she were mine I must admit that I would be a little worried at the lack of muscle behind her withers? If she works correctly during your schooling sessions then I would expect more muscle there. Has the fit of her saddle been cheked recently, I wonder if it might be pinching a little?
Glosgirl: My saddle was made to measure in January, I am getting her back out to check it again as soon as I can. I know she had special pockets under the saddle to fill those gaps.
I assumed it was her age, that made her dip there?
she looks fab for her age
My mare is the same dippy back (she was 17 this year) it was partly our saddle which made it like it but hers is much worse than yours. I found using the pessoa to get her to stretch down helped and lots of stretching down exercises ridden and polework gets them to work over their back
has she had foals in the past? this is meant to make their back more dippy as well.
appylass: Yes she was fat last summer, and I had some pretty harsh comments about it at the time.
Its a battle, but I'm not going to allow her to get fat again this year.
Thanks for the lovely comments
Rowy: yes, I don't know it as a fact but looking at her temperament, her teats and her "tartiness" when in season, I would say she has definitely had foals in the past.
I mentioned pessoa to my YM who said they are good IF you know how to use them correctly, which I dont. Will try pole work and stretch exercises though
She looks good, muscles take time and with her being a little older, although she DOES NOT look it, it may take longer. But defo get her back checked again as it's a long time since January xxx
She looks gorgeous She's missing a little bit of muscle over the topline and hindquarters, but you already know that xp Working long and low with lots of sketching when schooling, and perhaps lunging in something like a lungee bungee would help with that But yes, she looks fine, very pretty mare!
