Hello All,

I desperately don't want to get into trouble for advertising, so will keep the details to a minimum

My Mum is facing lots of tough decisions at the moment, including whether she can feasibly keep her horse

As the market has been rather dodgy for a while now she isn't sure what to do for the best, ie whether to sell / loan / LWVTB? He is a big lad she has owned for 6yrs, and at 14yrs old he really is a family friend that doesn't owe her anything.

Your opinions greatly appreciated

it all depedns whether she will be in a position to have the horse back some time in the future.

if you sell you have little or no chance of being able to get your family friend back and if you loan or lwvtb you have to be prepared that it might not work out and you will have to have the horse back until you can find another loan home. however loaning it enables your mum to maintain ownership and should her situation change she could have her horse back.

Hmm it's a tricky one, my Folks are getting divorced and Mum has a new house (without any land as the budget didn't stretch that far). She is currently keeping Solly at the Farm with my Dad but they aren't exactly on best terms

and the situation isn't any good long term.... it's all rather sad

Sorry to hear about the situation.

I would loan as above, she will maintain ownership and can evaluate the situation again in a few months.

Yes, I agree, I would loan him out. I loaned my mare out for 3yrs to help me out financially and gave me time to concentrate on study in my final year at uni. It can work out really well, her first loan home was excellent, she was there two years and looked after impeccably.
Just make sure you have a written agreement and they would have to give a whole months notice before you had him back if worst case scenario that happens. Good luck to you and your mum x

how sad is he a novice ride ?

I throw my 'never been on a horse before' OH on Solly quite regularly

However he is one of those odd horses who you could ride down the motorway but who mighty tip his head to double check a wheelie bin as you hack past it

Does that make him a novice ride? I'm never really sure

In the circumstances I'd look to loan if at all possible. With everything else that's going on in your mum's life it'd be nice if she didn't lose her horse as well.
