how is the reccesion still effecting you and others round you with horses

As title how it effects yourself and friends and people you know and related businesses ?I know of a few livery yards who have increased prices on everything ,people cant /or selling up because of financial reasons ,cutbacks all round one girl had enough when her livery went up i felt very sad for her (
 
Couldn't sell project pony in the summer so now have 4 to run on through the winter. Gonna go out and have fun on her though - figure I might as well go out and win loads if I've got to feed her for another six months, as she's certainly capable of it and is far easier and more talented than any of my other lot!
 
What I pay for livery has stayed the same though the cost for summer forage (hay) went up a bit. I think our YO is very realistic about what people can afford at the moment. The self employed groom at the yard put her prices up quite a bit last winter and it resulted in less people using her services but relying on others at yard to help out. We've also had an increase in people getting sharers for their horses at our yard to help with their costs though with some it's more about the time element, ie, they need someone else to help them keep horse fit etc due to working. TBH on our yard I haven't really noticed that anyone is struggling massively with the recession and their horses but then we're not a big competing yard or anything just a little, local low-key kind of a place.
 
Am def feeling the bite! Basic monthly costs for our two are nearly £600 (on DIY, inc shoes for one and basic feed for both). Having to pay for hay from now on too which will really hit. Others on the yard are funded by v comfortably off parents so don't seem to be feeling the crunch or aware that others might be, ym is also rather sheltered in her views about this too! oh and I are now needing to choose between one comp a month or one lesson a month. Don't go out, don't have new clothes, don't get temped by horsey stuff! Trying to expand my business so I have more coming in and looking at trying to cut back our housing costs by moving to a cheaper place. Wouldn't sell either of ours for the world but it is def getting harder, find horsey and non horsey people round here not v understanding tbh. We are in royal ag territory so a lack of funds isn't widely understood!

I can understand people wanting to save money by doing this but eventually your groom will move on & everyone will lose their services for good. The groom needs to make a living, they aren't a charity.

How would you like someone to come in & do your job for nothing & put you out of work?.... not nice is it?
 
Unfortunately the recession has collided with me having my first child (last October) and leaving my good full time time job for a part time one at the shop in the next village, I advertised for a sharer all summer to no avail, have started my own bussiness on ebay to try and earn a few more pennies but its hopeless I simply can not afford to run Leonard anymore so he's gone to my friend for sale and is in H&H this week. Hes been online since Friday and not one call so who knows what will happen.[}
 
Our livery went up and we lost a lovely girl from the yard purely for financial reasons.. very sad to see her go..

One of the biggest things I have noticed is the sheer amount of horses now up for sale - and priced at level I haven' seen for many years. You really can buy (well I haven't tried but looking at the adverts) a nice all rounder 16.1+ 8 years + for around £3K - even 4 years ago that would have been a £5 or £6K horse.
 
I've had to cutback on firepit patio heaters, big style. It's effecting my happiness and that of my husbands - we are seeking counselling:D
