Had an interesting morning with my horse. He's 13 and I've had him for nearly 5 years. I took my nephew and sister-in-law down to the yard to see him. My nephew is 8 and never ridden before. My sister-in-law has ridden all her life on riding school horses.
Nephew had a sit on and I led him round the field, had a trot etc and said it was 'awesome'! Horse was a total star. SIster-in-law got on and rode off round the field but horse was only interested in what I was doing. She said he was watching me the whole time and not really listening to her. She can ride, I have ridden with her before but my horse was SO lazy and ignorant, she was tired out! Then she rode past and I told him to 'get on' - he took off in canter and then went really nicely for a whole minute or so, then went back to looking for me!
Last time husband rode him he behaved like that too... Now I know I should be honoured my horse loves me so very much and we have such a strong 'bond' but it gets a bit embarrassing when you tell people how lovely your horse is but when they come and try him he's a ploddy ignorant git for them! How are other peoples horses for new riders?
