Mine's not too bad, the only thing he really dislikes is if something big or loud comes up close to his bum. I tend to just park him in a driveway for a few seconds if something like that is coming.
I think part of the problem is that our hacking is mostly off road, so he doesn't get all that much practice. I try to make a point of hacking him along or next to roads when I can so he doesn't forget entirely what cars are.
He's fine with farm machinery, as there are often tractors next to his field. Also I tried taking him over a motorway bridge the other day as that was my previous horse's big phobia for ages, but he didn't bat an eyelid at that.
