How late in the year was your horse born?

I used to own an arab who was born on 1/01/2000 hence the cheesey name of Millenium Lad! Friends of mine have a mare which is due to foal soon, so that will be either a September or October foal.

Yes it was a difficult start ! heat lamps and rugs - the biggest Straw bed that you can imagine and the most difficult thing was that the foal couldn't go out of the stable as the yard was just covered in ice and just too dangerous - on the plus side she had a lot fuss and handling and is now a dream to do anything with. Mum just had the best hay and as much as she needed. But both are doing great - Filly now being weaned and is very relaxed about it all. Happy Ending !

I had this problem! The yard was covered in snow and ice and the fields were a disaster for the first month or so of her life! She too was the easiest little thing to handle ever, and when it came to turning them out she was the one lead by my novicey OH while I struggled with her stroppy mother!

I had a coloured cob who was born in december so thats as late as it can be I\ suppose !, also my mare gave birth this year on the 2nd september foal is thriving and growing well.

One of my little mares dropped her very unexpected foal this year - January 11th - it was minus 15 degrees that night - 2ft of snow and thick ice and was stable bound for two weeks as completely ice and snowed in - However depite all the added aggro she had a very healthy filly foal that is now 9 mts old - standing taller than her 13.2hh mum and is the most adorable little bundle of black and white fluff I had ever had ! PS when she was born we whipped my dogs coat off his back to help keep filly warm ! Dog had nice new coat bought for him!!
lol this had me rolling around, I breed mini's so when mine are born early we use dog coats.

In a perfect world all foals would be born in the spring (warm weather fresh grass) but sometimes it just doesn't work out. Mine run free with the stallion and so he can't wait to get frisky in the spring after a long, slow, cold winter but this year one of mine had a miscarriage in August and is now in season. I tried separating them but there is no fence strong enough for a randy mini. He is only 69cm and when he can't climb over a fence a lays down and starts rolling and wiggling until he gets to the other side. I really must video it for you all to see. He is so funny. So anyway I guess I will have a late foal next year.

October!! And he looks more mature than most 3 year olds ;)

We have lots of Jan foals born, the earlier the better in TB breeding.
They still get a good start in life and certainly don't suffer for it :) It just means they have to come in when the weather is terrible, but they still get out every day!

14th December! He was a bit of a shock!

He's grown into a very cheeky and well developed 13.0hh! Mare was bought over from Ireland and guareented empty (we were worried about the following Spring!) December never entered our heads! Kept him in for a few days but then he was out every day weather permitting. Have some very cute 'foal in the snow' pictures! Technically, at 2 1/2weeks old he was then 1 come first of January! He's called Rudi - short for Rudolph!
