how long after feeding do you leave before you travel?

How long after feeding do you leave before you travel? Do you leave an hour as exercising?

We have had a few early mornings recently and we can get up and have the horses in the trailer in 20 mins, but they can get a bit grumpy if have to go without breakfast, understandably

They only have Hifi, low cal nuts and sugar beet but we tend to give them half rations (handful of chaff and half small scoop of nuts) to keep them quiet and then let them have half an hour, as I figure that the hifi is not really that much different to hay!

so just wondered what everyone else did and have you seen any contraindications. One of ours is a fab traveller, the other one is ok and they always travel with hay.

Don't see what difference it makes tbh. I have actually fed mine on the lorry in the past....

I always leave a minimum of 1 hour (as for riding). Lost my first pony to colic, wouldn't want to tempt fate.
 
Don't have any time scales mine go on trailer as soon as they are suited and booted and finished eating.
 
I try to leave an hour, but it tends to be more like half an hour more often than not. we rarely travel more than 30 minutes tho.

if i was going further then i would leave more time. it's meant to be as hard work for them as hacking at walk and trot....
 
i always leave an hour, as per riding. however, this is with a full feed. if i was in a rush would just give a small handfull of each, then i guess would be ok to go straight away. not really worth the risk with much more i dont think. might be fine the majority of the time, but it only takes once for there to be problems!
 
It rarely happens as mine usually get fed in the evenings. However, when workload is such that feed is upped to 2 x day, then I wouldn't leave time as such before setting off, however I would always ensure that there was at least 1 hour between finishing feed and ridden work starting.

I've got greedy ponies, a big meal for them would more than 1/2 stubbs round scoops worth. Might be different if I was having to give them more...
 
I feed, scoop of chaff and carrots - muck out, then load up and go. I try and leave about 10 - 15 mins, but there again we feed at weekends then hack after about 15 mins.
