Horse gone into vets today to have shockwave and cartrophen for his back as well as an equine sports massage person seeing him.

How long normally does it take before you can ride again? Is it better to put him on the walker for a week or two first? Sorry if this sounds a bit vague!!

Ours had 3 months rest after the shockwave was finished then went on a walker for 6 weeks as he was too difficult to walk in hand. Once he was up to 20 minutes twice a day on the walker he started ridden walk work. This was for hind suspensory problems.

Most vets will give you a full rehab plan and will write it down for you so it is clear if you ask them.

No experience of shockwave, but certainly cartrophen, I had to continue walking exercise during a 5 week course of cartrophen jabs with my mare (not that it seemed to make a blind bit of difference to her!).
