How long after tying up were you back riding?

My horse tyed up last Sunday evening, vet was out in 15 minutes and treated but vet back out again on Tuesday morning for more blood tests to find out if the enzyme levels are down. Want to know if they are likely to be back down on Tuesday and able to start riding again?

Depends on how badly he tied up - and how quickly the blood tests come back as normal.

Even if they are 100% normal on Tuesday, you need to take things quietly - or your horse will tie up again. It's not a well understood problem, but it is known that a horse who ties up once will tie up again given half an excuse - so future riding and management has to take this condition into account.

That means taking horse OFF high energy concentrates (if it is getting them) and relying more on forage; NEVER letting horse stand in all day without exercise; being very careful about warming up properly - and cooling off; avoiding horse getting chilled, etc.

What JG said, very accurate

Took ages for my old man's blood tests to be normal, at least a month, depends how badly it tyed up, they said that they couldn't measure my horses levels because it was too high to measure, I was distraught at being told that. Long story, I had op, he was very fit before having 3 weeks off while I recovered, when I rode him again he tyed up, totally my fault, I didn't think to cut his food down duh ! he was only getting fibre anyway, no high energy foods for this OAP who thinks he's 3 !

Anyway just go by what your vet says, wait for blood to be normal, you need to warm up and cool down properly, use an exercise sheet, if not already clipped out, just do a blanket clip to keep something on the back muscles.

Have you been told to massage his bum, either side of the spine, either with a tennis ball or your fingers, not too hard, I did this every day, can't remember prob bout 10 mins, I was lucky I had a massage thing, with little wheels I used that.
