How long are you hacks? (time wise)

Pack lunch sounds like a great idea! How do you carry it? We want to start going further as I said but I do have one question for those that do four hours plus, what about water for the horses?
Carry lunch in back pack (small one). Route is arranged to allow water from streams.

When I was on a livery yard most people only used to do the 20 min block and seemed quite pleased with themselves.

They seemed to think I was crackers for heading out on a gorgeous day for 4-5hrs with an OS map and a sarnie... Oh well! :)

Ps. Limited to 5-10 minutes hacking now with just backed cob but take him out for in hand walks for nearly 2hrs... Farmer thinks we are completely bonkers as I set off down the drive with my oversized dog! ;)

Mine can range from 30 mins to 4 hours, depending on how I feel, and how much time I have. I do love a good hack and can't wait to get out later once it has cool down! :D

I have to box out to go hacking so wouldn't bother for anything shorter than an hour, and on my day off I'll take my horse put on his own for up to 3 hours.

I never said I had great off road hacking :-) we have some bridle ways and also a few lanes but we have a few main roads to ride down and/or cross to get to the bridle ways and lanes. Our horses have become good in traffic because of it but I do appreciate how difficult it is. I have one horse I can safely ride out alone on and I hope that my younster who is good with company will also be good alone when the time comes to teach him to go alone.

Sometimes, I just wander down the road with Ned, but that's because I'm training him. So that usually just lasts about 15mins - 45mins
If I go out with the group, we go from 1hr to 3hrs+ or more if there's a 'special' ride going.

At the moment my hack probably is about 1/2 hour depending on how quick I take it, there's only one ride I go on really as I don't have anyone to hack out with and in order to get to other routes have to cross main road which I'm not all that confident with, its so boring just going down the bridle path and back up again its driving me insane!!!

At my old yard I used to hack out for 3-5 hours and often used to tie ponies up outside a country pub and go in for a drink and a sarnie! Was great. However in order for it to qualify as a 'proper' hack would have to be an hour-hour and a half long. I still used to go for short 20mins pootle down the road after a schooling or jumping session just to cool down!
