Just wondering if your horse was fit what length (in miles) would you consider ok and not too far for a hack? Also have you ever hacked to and from a competition - if so how far away was it?
Thanks

I think the horse I hack would be more than happy to keep going all day, as would I! (Horse even more so if it involved a trip to the pub at some point

Sorry doesnt really anwer your Q

If we were hacking off road I'd happily hack out 20 miles or so (have done). The longest one we do at the moment is about 8 miles, but that incorporates a 2 mile canter track

It helps that YO is into endurance, so we get conditioned into hacking out further

When I was younger I always used to hack to the local show which was about 5/6 miles away, then hack home again. Horses would be there all day and quite happy munching grass/rinking from trough in showground. We did get caught in a thunderstorm on the way back once though which wasn't good!

Up to 30km trotting on roads driving, I don't hack ridden anymore except about 2km round the block or a blast in the fields.

Have hacked about 7 miles to 2 different local shows

OH and I will hack around 10 to 14km each time we go out (min 3 x week). This takes us between 1hr 30 mins and 1hr 50mins depending on the route. (eg hillwork, all walking, walk and trot etc). In the south I would do maybe 20 km twice a week on my lad and 25 - 30km a couple of times a week on friend's horses. (more or less 3 hours trotting and cantering!).

ETA FB is coming back into work after nearly a year off, so we hope to increase distance and pace and go out more often.

Haven't hacked to shows in years, but when I was younger if it was within 2 hrs we'd do it on the RS horses!

Used to do around 5-10 miles however now only do around 2 miles due to having a different horse and more idiots on the road.
My local show is around 2-3 miles away, I have hacked to and from it many times.
